FORT MYERS—The Venice Indians won the 6A state championship over Bartram Trail Saturday night in what was their third title in the last four season. The Indians were led on the mound by 2017 LHP Caleb Williams who was making his first career varsity start. Williams did in fact answer the call from his coaches by throwing five innings, giving up no runs, and striking out three. The Indians were led at the plate by 2016 IF and Jacksonville commit Scott Dubrule who went 2-4 with an RBI and 2016 IF/RHP and High Point commit Trevor Holloway went 2-3 with a double and RBI.

Both teams were coming off emotional, marathon-like games that each lasted 11 innings and used up a lot of pitching. This is where Venice seemed to really have the edge as they still had multiple options in this game while Bartram Trail was running thin.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when Venice was able to put up a three spot, one coming off a successful squeeze play by 2015 RHP/1B and Florida Tech Signee Colin Christello, one off a double by 2016 OF Brent Killam, and the last run off a single by Holloway.

Venice tacked on two more runs, another off a sacrifice fly by Christello and the last one off a single by Dubrule. The five runs were more than enough for Williams and the rest of the pitching staff as the Indians were able to secure a 29-3 record and roll to a state championship 5-0.
