The West Region State Games Tryout took place Saturday, September 18th at Berkeley Prep in Tampa, FL. The event featured players from the 2022-2026 classes participating in a pro-style workout followed by bullpens in front of the PBR Florida Scouting Staff.

Player Analysis

Eugene Ahn 1B / 3B / IMG Academy, FL / 2024 5-foot-8, 180-pound solid athletic build. Solid during batting practice, the right-handed hitter had a max exit velocity of 87 mph. Begins in a tall athletic stance with a quick controlled load, then uses a short stride. Has average bat speed, short swing plane and good extension on his finish. Found multiple barrels with some loud contacts. Gap to gap line drive approach. Solid while in the infield, made throws up to 78 mph; has choppy feet, a clean natural exchange, and sure hands. Movements laterally were athletic and he fields the ball out front. From a ¾ slot, showed consistent accuracy to the base with a short arm action. Recorded a 60 time of 7.9 at the event.

Andreas Alvarez SS / RHP / Osceola , FL / 2024 5-foot-10, 168-pound athletic build. Above average in the box, Al94ez had an exit velocity of 94 mph. Starts in a balanced athletic stance with a smooth rhythmic load, then uses a short stride. Bat speed is above average, shows a short swing plane and high finish. He created a lot of loud contact and found multiple barrels. Gap to gap line drive approach. Above average while in the infield, registered his best throw across the diamond at 80 mph; had soft consistent hands, athletic footwork, and a clean natural exchange. Above average his best position velocity in the outfield was registered at 86 mph; has soft hands, smooth feet, and a clean exchange. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. Showed consistent accuracy to the base with a quick arm action and a ¾ slot. In the 60-yard dash, recorded a time of 7.42. Above average on the mound, used a quick arm action and a ¾ arm angle while showing lightning arm speed. Drop-and-drive type pitcher and uses decent effort. Displays even shoulders with an athletic balance point. Lands square with a falling off finish. Threw his fastball 85-86 mph; has a heavy fastball that shows running action and command around the zone. Throws a tight curveball (71-72) that shows slurvey action and down in the zone command. Shows in the zone control and swing and miss action on his sharp slider (77-78).

Hudson Beachy RHP / 1B / Berkeley Prep, FL / 2023 6-foot, 175-pound athletic build. Solid on the mound, showed good arm speed, he had a short arm action and a ¾ arm angle. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who shows easy effort. During his delivery balance point is tall with even shoulders. Lands square with an athletic finish. Sat with his fastball at 71-73 mph; has command around the zone and slight running action with heavy movement. He showed fading action and in the zone command on his sharp changeup (68-69). He showed down in the zone control and slurvey action on his tight slider (67-68).

Nicholas Bonollo 3B / OF / Bishop McLaughlin, FL / 2024 5-foot-10, 165-pound strong athletic build. Above average at the plate, Bonollo's 95 mph exit velocity ranks him 3rd at the event. Started in a tall athletic stance with a quick controlled load, then used a short stride. Has above average bat speed, short simple swing plane and level finish. He found multiple barrels with a lot of loud contact. Gap to gap line drive approach. Above average while in the infield, made throws at velocities up to 70 mph; shows smooth feet, sure consistent hands, and a clean natural exchange. Athletic from the outfield, he showed the ability to throw at velocities up to 79 mph; had smooth footwork, consistent hands, and a clean exchange. Movements laterally were athletic and he fields the ball out front. From a high ¾ slot, showed consistent accuracy to the bag with a long arm action. During the event, clocked a 60 time of 7.62.

Jaden Holder SS / 3B / Tampa Prep, FL / 2023 Rankings  StateRank: 170 / POS: 38 5-foot-9, 150-pound lean athletic build. Solid during batting practice, Holder had a max exit velocity of 86 mph. Started in a balanced athletic stance with a tight load, then used a short quick stride. Bat speed is electric, has a short swing plane and level finish. He created some loud contact and found multiple barrels. Line drive approach. Solid in the infield, his best throw was recorded at 74 mph; has sure hands, smooth feet, and a clean natural exchange. Laterally, movements were athletic and fielded the ball out front. Consistent accuracy to the bases, used a short arm action with a high ¾ slot. In the 60-yard dash, recorded a time of 7.25.

Atticus Huffstutler C / 3B / Lakewood , FL / 2024 6-foot-2, 170-pound long athletic build. Solid at the plate, Huffstutler had an exit velocity of 80 mph. Begins in a balanced stance with a quick load, then uses a leg kick. Had a simple swing plane, efficient bat speed and high finish. Found some barrels with some loud contact. Line drive approach. Solid while in the infield, made throws up to 73 mph; had consistent hands, choppy footwork, and a clean exchange. Behind the plate, throw downs to second topped out at 74 mph; had smooth athletic footwork, soft hands, and a quick clean transfer. recorded a pop time of 2.10-2.19. Clean setup with some flexibility. Decent accuracy to the bag, used a long arm action with a ¾ slot. Clocked a 60 time of 7.92 at the event.

Daniel Kilmer C / IMG Academy , FL / 2023 6-foot-1, 175-pound athletic build. Solid during batting practice, Kilmer had an exit velocity of 85 mph. Began in a balanced tall stance with a smooth load, then used a leg kick. Bat speed is quick, has a level swing plane and good extension on his finish. He found multiple barrels with some loud contact. Line drive approach. While catching, he produced a position velocity of 72 mph during throw downs; has a clean natural transfer, soft hands, and athletic feet. recorded pop times of 2.15-2.33. Average flexibility and athletic setup. Consistent accuracy to the bag, used a high ¾ slot and a short arm action. During the event, recorded a 60 time of 7.75.

Nicholas Lorenz RHP / OF / Spruce Creek, FL / 2023 6-foot, 160-pound lean athletic build. Above average on the mound, used a long arm action with a ¾ arm angle while showing quick arm speed. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who uses easy effort. Has an athletic balance point with even shoulders. Lands square with an athletic finish. Sat with his fastball at 85-86 mph; has a heavy fastball that shows running action and control around the zone. Has down in the zone command and tight fading action on his sharp changeup (80-81). Throws a tight slider (76-77) with down in the zone control and swing and miss action.

Justin Marshall C / 1B / Jesuit, FL / 2024 Rankings  StateRank: 185 / POS: 27 6-foot-1, 190-pound solid athletic build. Solid at the plate, the right-handed hitter had a max exit velocity of 85 mph. Starts in a balanced crouched stance with a quick load, then uses a short stride. Bat speed was average, displayed an upward swing plane and high finish. Barreled up multiple balls with some loud contact. Line drive approach. Solid while in the infield, registered his best throw across the diamond at 74 mph; had a clean exchange, consistent hands, and choppy footwork. Movements laterally were athletic and he fields the ball out front. Behind the plate, his best throw downs of the day reached a max velocity of 74 mph; showed athletic feet, soft consistent hands, and a quick clean transfer. he had a pop time of 2.19-2.21. Athletic setup with tons of flexibility. Had a short arm action and a ¾ slot with consistent accuracy to the bag. Clocked a time of 8.83 in the 60-yard dash.

Caden McDonald RHP / 1B / Sickles , FL / 2023 Rankings  StateRank: 225 / POS: 30 6-foot-2, 190-pound solid athletic build. Solid in the box, McDonald had an exit velocity of 93 mph. Starts in a tall balanced stance with a slow rhythmic load, then uses a short stride. Had quick bat speed, short swing plane and good extension on his finish. Barreled up multiple balls with some loud contact. Line drive gap to gap approach. Solid in the infield, displayed a velocity of 81 mph; had smooth footwork, consistent hands, and a clean natural exchange. Laterally, movements were athletic and fielded the ball out front. Had a short arm action and a ¾ slot with consistent accuracy to the base. Clocked a 60 time of 7.02 at the event. Solid on the mound, used a ¾ arm angle with a short arm action while showing quick arm speed. Drop-and-drive type pitcher and shows decent effort. Balance point is tall with even shoulders during delivery. Lands square with a falling off finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 87-88 mph; had slight running action and command around the zone with heavy movement. Throws a tight curveball (70-71) with slurvey action and down in the zone command. Throws a sharp changeup (77-78) that shows gradual fading action and around the zone command. He shows sweeping action and in the zone command on his sharp slider (74-75).

Cameron Medina SS / RHP / Plant, FL / 2024 5-foot-6, 145-pound lean athletic frame. Solid at the plate, the switch hitter clocked an exit velocity of 82 mph. Begins in an open stance with a smooth rhythmic load, then uses a short stride. Bat speed is efficient, shows a short level swing plane and high finish. Created some loud contact and found some barrels. Line drive approach. Capable in the infield, his best throw was registered at 70 mph; has consistent hands, choppy feet, and a clean exchange. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were average. Decent accuracy to the bases, used a ¾ slot with a short arm action. Clocked a 60 time of 7.85 at the event. Solid on the mound, showing consistent arm speed he had a long arm action with a ¾ arm angle. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who shows easy effort. Showed consistent balance point with even shoulders. Lands square with a falling off finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 73-74 mph; has a straight fastball that shows tailing action and control around the zone. Throws a tight curveball (65-66) that shows down in the zone command and slurvey action. He showed fading action and in the zone control on his sharp changeup (70-71).

Emmett Meeks LHP / 1B / Clearwater Central Catholic, FL / 2024 5-foot-9, 165-pound solid athletic frame. Solid at the plate, the left-handed hitter had an exit velocity of 85 mph. Begins in a tall balanced stance with a small load, then uses a short leg kick. Bat speed was efficient, had an upward swing plane and high finish. Was able to create some loud contact and found some barrels. Gap to gap approach. Solid in the infield, his best throw was recorded at 75 mph; has a clean exchange, consistent hands, and choppy feet. Solid his best position velocity in the outfield was registered at 74 mph; had smooth footwork, consistent hands, and a clean natural exchange. Solid on the mound, used a loose arm action and a high ¾ arm angle while showing quick arm speed. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who shows easy effort. Has even shoulder with an athletic balance point. Lands square with balanced finish. Sat with his fastball at 72-73 mph with a max of 74 mph; has a heavy fastball that shows control both sides of the plate around the zone and running action. His tight curveball (64-65) shows slurvey action and down in the zone control. His sharp changeup (67-68) had in the zone control and fading action.

Max Menendez 1B / RHP / Cypress Creek, FL / 2023 6-foot-5, 210-pound strong solid build. Solid at the plate, Menendez was ranked 2nd with an exit velocity of 95 mph.Starts in a tall athletic stance with a tight rhythmic load, then uses a short stride. Bat speed is electric, has a short swing plane and good extension on his finish. Found multiple barrels with a lot of loud contact. Aggressive line drive approach. Solid while in the infield, made throws at velocities up to 80 mph; had a natural developing exchange, sure hands, and average footwork. Fielded the ball out front with athletic movement laterally. Consistent accuracy to the bag, used a long arm action and a ¾ slot. In the 60-yard dash, recorded a time of 8.3. Solid on the mound, showed quick arm speed with a ¾ arm angle and a long arm action. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who uses easy effort. Tall balance point with even shoulders. Lands square with an athletic finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 81-82 mph; has control around the zone and hard action with heavy movement. Throws a tight curveball (68-69) that shows slurvey action and down in the zone control. He showed slight fading action and command around the zone on his sharp changeup (76-77). Matthew Midyett OF / RHP / Plant , FL / 2025 5-foot-10, 165-pound lean athletic frame. Above average in the box, Midyett recorded an exit velocity of 83 mph. Starts in a balanced athletic stance with a rhythmic load, then uses a short stride. Has electric bat speed, short swing plane and high finish. He barreled up multiple balls with a lot of loud contact. Gap to gap line drive approach. Roberto Odor SS / 2B / Winter Haven, FL / 2022 5-foot-10, 167-pound athletic frame. Solid at the plate, the right-handed hitter recorded an exit velocity of 93 mph. Starts in an athletic balanced stance with a smooth load, then uses a short controlled stride. Bat speed was explosive, used a short swing plane and high finish. De'Sean Rogers OF / RHP / Winter Haven, FL / 2022 6-foot, 170-pound solid athletic frame. Solid at the plate, Rogers was ranked 1st with an exit velocity of 97 mph.Began in an athletic stance with a tight rhythmic load, then used a short stride. Has a short swing plane, explosive bat speed and high finish. In his round he found multiple barrels with a lot of loud contact. Gap to gap line drive approach. Athletic from the outfield, his best throws to the bases were registered at 81 mph; has smooth feet, a clean exchange, and consistent hands. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. Showed consistent accuracy to the base with a short arm action and a ¾ slot. Justin Salvati SS / RHP / West Orange, FL / 2025 5-foot-7, 118-pound lean frame. Capable during batting practice, Salvati recorded an exit velocity of 72 mph. Started in a tall stance with a small load, then used a short stride. Bat speed was developing, had a short swing plane and high finish. He barreled up some balls with some loud contact. Base hit approach. Capable while in the infield, recorded position velocities up to 68 mph; had consistent hands, a clean exchange, and smooth footwork. JD Valdes RHP / 1B / Gaither , FL / 2023 6-foot-1, 170-pound mature physical build. Raw in the box, the right-handed hitter recorded an exit velocity of 82 mph. Started in a tall balanced stance with a controlled load, then used a short stride. Found multiple barrels through his round. Solid while in the infield, made throws at velocities up to 77 mph; showed choppy feet, raw hands, and a natural exchange. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were developing. Had a high ¾ slot and a loose arm action. During the event, clocked a 60 time of 8.32. Projectable on the mound, showed above average arm speed, he had a clean arm action with a high ¾ arm angle. Tall-and-fall type pitcher who uses some effort. Tall balance point with even shoulders. Lands square with an athletic finish. Threw his fastball 80-81 mph; has running action and arm side control. His 11/5 curveball (65-66) showed in the zone control and gradual action. Had fading action and control around the zone on his changeup (65-66).
