Witherspoon Goes Two Hit CG Shutout in MLB Draft Prospect Duel

MLB Draft Prospects and both Jacksonville University signees 2022 Malachi Witherspoon and 2022 Dakota Stone faced off against each other Wednesday night. 

Witherspoon was in full control of his outing since toeing the rubber in the first. The big breaking ball at 3000+ rpm spin rate gave Sandalwood fits, striking out 11 batters and only allowing two hits on the 92-94 mph Fastball. 

Fletcher got on the board in the second inning when Sandalwood’s corner infield committed two errors back to back to allow two runs to come across. 

Dakota Stone turned in a solid six-inning performance giving his team a great chance to win the game with 14 strikeouts, 0 earned runs, and 1 walk on 3 hits. 

Ultimately, Sandalwood’s 17 strikeouts between Stone and Tanner Reed weren't enough as Witherspoon earned the victory on the bump for Fletcher. 

Malachi Witherspoon, Drake McCoy, Angel Oquendo, Jacob Harman, and Kyson Witherspoon each managed one hit to lead Fletcher.
