2018 North Georgia Summer Trials: Class of 2021 Two-way Players

Blake Davis
Scouting Director

The class of 2021 two-way prospects who attended the North Georgia Trials were an interesting bunch.  All four of these players have good qualities both ways, but gave heavy leans as to what their futures will likely be as prospects for the next level. These kids all showed good athleticism and have plenty of time to add strength and take the next steps in their development.  This group will need to be followed closely.

Justice Cromwell 3B / RHP / River Ridge, GA / 2021

At 5-foot-9 183-pounds, Cromwell has a chance to grow into a powerful build as he matures. In the box, he sets-up with a straight away stance and a nice athletic base, starting his hands in a relaxed high set about shoulder height. From there, Cromwell uses loose hitter-ish actions and strong lower half to generate bat-speed (80 mph exit velo). Cromwell already shows gap power and has a chance to grow into more. Defensively, has solid actions with the ball in front of him, but needs to work on lateral agility. His hands work, and shows an accurate arm across the diamond. On the bump, Cromwell shows feel for three pitches: a fastball (72-74) that he can command to the bottom of the zone, a curveball (61-63) that he shows the ability to land consistently, and a change-up that he still is not fully committed too but also shows advanced feel for locating. Overall, Cromwell has good potential with the bat and as he gets too more strength has a chance to run into power. On the mound, he is a strike-thrower and flashes good shape and feel for three pitches that he will locate at the bottom of the zone.

Seth Densmore RHP / 1B / Pickens, GA / 2021

5-foot-10, 212-pound is a two-way player with sneaky good actions and feel for the game. In the batters box, he sets-up tall with a narrow base and slightly open stance. He uses a large leg kick to trigger, and loads his hands with a fluid rhythmic draw. He has feel for the barrel and the DNA of his swing is very good. If Densmore makes a commitment to getting stronger he has a chance to make somebody a very good hitter, as you can't teach looseness of actions and rhythm in the batters box. On the mound, Densmore's delivery features good balance and mechanics. As a pitcher, it is presently feel and pitchability over power. His fastball sits in the 70-72 range. Shows ability shape and land a soft curveball (60-61). Also throws a changeup that he has solid feel for at present age (62-63) and a knuckleball.  Overall, Densmore has plenty of ability on a baseball field and shows natural actions and movements in the batters box.

Tanner Folds LHP / OF / Sonoravillle, GA / 2021

Folds is a 6-foot, 175-pound 2-way player who shows promise on the mound. He has an athletic pitchers frame and pitches from the stretch only, aggressively using a high overhand slot. Folds creates good angle to the plate with his fast ball (78-80). His changeup (68-70) has deception and late sink when down. The curveball flashes good 12-6 type action when he gets out front and on top of it. At the plate, Folds sets up with a balanced straight away stance. And shows strength in a mostly pull approach. He projects to have power in the future and showed a present exit velo of 79 mph. Overall Folds is a good looking young left handed pitcher who has the makings of future stuff and deception. Will be a close follow on the mound going forward.

Cole McDaniel 1B / LHP / East Paulding, GA / 2021

McDaniel sports a 6-foot-2, 185-pound frame that is very projectable with long arms and legs. He has a clean arm swing and gets downhill from a high-3/4 arm slot.  His fastball sits (74-75) and feel confident more is coming. He shows very good shape to a curvball (62-64) that he lands consistently and also features a changeup (67-68) that he has advanced feel for, and will continue to come as he shows more commitment to it. He has the ability to use all three pitches and does it with ease of operation. Offensively McDaniel has a nice easy left-handed stroke.  He sets-up straight away and shows a nice fluid level swing through the zone. He also shows good bat-speed with an exit velo of 81 mph. Though McDaniel's future is most likely to be on the mound, he shows feel and attributes of a quality hitter. Overall, McDaniel has an interesting future on the mound with very good feel and projection to what he does.  Will be a close follow going forward.
