Prep Baseball Report

Season Review: Blessed Trinity

Phil Kerber
Georgia Scouting Director

Our goal at Prep Baseball Report is to promote high school players, and give them the exposure they need to be able to play at the next level. With the 2020 high school season cancelled, we want to continue to be able to promote players, even when baseball is not being played. We have sent surveys out to coaches around the state and got their input on the first weeks of the season. Over the next few weeks, we will highlight the season and standout players, team by team.

Blessed Trinity Titans

Record: 12-4 (1-0)

2020 Standouts

Trey Baker, RHP/OF, Blessed Trinity, 2020
Northwest Florida State commit
Season Stats: 2-1, 1 SV, 11.1 IP, 11 SO, 6 BB, 2 ER, 1.45 ERA /  2 2B, 2 3B, 4 RBI, 4 R

2/14/20 - Northwest Florida State commit. 6-foot-3 190-pounds. Baker is off to a hot start this spring. The LHH has a smooth swing with a really strong base. Mature swing, and game play will allow him to make an impact at Northwest Florida State right away. He gets the foot down early, and lets his hands and strength do the rest. He had a big time hit to seal the deal against Houston County, and put Blessed Trinity up 4-0 on the season. There are a lot of tools working for Baker. He can get on the mound as well. Expect some strong numbers from him this spring season.

Bret Buursema, OF, Blessed Trinity, 2020
Berry College commit
Season Stats: .273 AVG, .457 OBP, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 8 R

Dominic Marcoccio, RHP, Blessed Trinity, 2020
Wofford commit
Season Stats: 3-0, 17.0 IP, 19 K, 9 BB, 1 ER, .412 ERA

2/12/20 - Wofford commit. 6-foot-5 230-pounds, lanky, athletic frame right-handed pitcher. First start in his high school career. Went 3.1 innings, striking out five, one walk, two hits, and zero earned runs. Fastball sat 88 for the first two innings, popped a 91 in the second inning. He threw the slider early and often. Had the ability to throw it for strikes any time in the count. He did a great job tunneling his slider with the fastball especially when he was ahead in the count. Slider was 74-76 with tight spin. Clean, effortless delivery with a really strong lower half. He really gets down the mound on the slider. He had it back up on him a few times, but was able to make an adjustment right away. Looked comfortable from the wind-up even though he has been used to relieving. Velo did not drop when he was in the stretch and working with the slide step with runners on base. Expect him to have high strikeout numbers this spring with his ability to pound the zone and throw the slider in any count with sharp break.

Aiden McSherry, RHP, Blessed Trinity, 2020
Young Harris College commit
Season Stats: 0-1, 7.2 IP, 9 K, 6 BB, 4 ER, 3.65 ERA
2/12/20 - 6-foot-5 200-pounds. Large, lanky frame has shown major improvement from the fall. He has really cleaned up the delivery, and seems to be throwing more strikes because of it. The fastball was 86-87 with really good life. He gets down the mound strong, and gets really good extension. He was first out of the pen in a close game. He walked the first two, but settled in after that with two big strikeouts. The breaking ball has good depth, and he is throwing it much more consistently for strikes. Expect McSherry to be off the board soon. He has had a great start to the season.

2021 Standouts

DJ Radtke, RHP/1B, Blessed Trinity, 2021
Auburn commit
Season Stats: 4-0, 24.0 IP, 25 K, 12 BB, 6 ER, 1.75 ERA / .340 AVG, 3 2B, 2 3B, 9 RBI, 12 R, 4 SO in 47 ABs
2/14/20 - Auburn commit. 6-foot-3, 190-pound right-handed pitcher and first baseman, strong build with the potential to add even more. Showed a control delivery with deliberate actions, rotational, keeps upper and lower halves in sync. Fastball sat 84-88, worked downhill with creating a good angle. Slider, downer action, late break, some sharp, 74-76, generated swing and misses, used to both sides of the plate. Has the frame and present arm action/strength to add more velocity to both pitches.

Joseph Chambers, RHP, Blessed Trinity, 2021
Uncommitted
Season Stats: 2-0, 1 SV, 9.2 IP, 11 K, 6 BB, 2 ER, 1.45 ERA
2/14/20 - 6-foot-2 200-pounds. Chambers started against a tough Houston County line-up. He competed in the zone with a fastball that was 82-84. The curveball was 70-72 with 12-6 spin. He was able to keep guys off balance with it, and sneak in a couple strikeouts with it as well. One coming with RISP with one of Houston County’s top bats at the plate. Chambers gets into his backside, and gets down the mound on the fastball. Arm angle changes slightly when he tries to get on top of his curveball. He was able to tunnel his curveball off his fastball, which made the fastball much more effective. Chambers also has a 34 on the ACT.

2/22/20 - Georgia commit. 6-foot 150-pounds, athletic build with proportional strength throughout. Avg width slope shoulders, Arm works easy through ¾ slot. Modified full windup is consistent & rhythmic, Repeats it like clockwork. Great feel for use of lead arm/position and back leg drive, delivery is very directional and repeats release with ease. FB 83-86 with arm side run, uses in & out for quality strikes. Misses intentionally to set up. CB 73-76 tight rotation; has true CB depth at 73-74; takes on more SL character 75-76, has power to get under hands of lefty. CH 74-75 takes on sinking life has good deception outta that delivery Bottom line, carves hitters up and he does it on purpose. No mercy, he uses aggressive tempo & the stuff stated above with a feel for pitching so far beyond his years. In the clip below watch the rhythm in the hands w/the rocker step & leg kick, while you watch this sequence of pitches that goes; FB, CB, FB, CH all in 32 seconds and imagine that for 7 innings

On the mound, he showed feel for three pitches. Fastball topped out at 80 but has been up to 83 in the past. Changeup showed fade at 72, curveball at 66-67.
