Prep Baseball Report

Season Review: Central Gwinnett

Phil Kerber
Georgia Scouting Director

Our goal at Prep Baseball Report is to promote high school players, and give them the exposure they need to be able to play at the next level. With the 2020 high school season cancelled, we want to continue to be able to promote players, even when baseball is not being played. We have sent surveys out to coaches around the state and got their input on the first weeks of the season. Over the next few weeks, we will highlight the season and standout players, team by team.

Central Gwinnett

Record: 4-2

2020 Standouts

JT Tate, C/RHP, Central Gwinnett, 2020
Season Stats: .500 BA, .714 OBP, 5 BB, 4 RBI

Underclass Standouts

Thomas Krystopa, RHP/1B, Central Gwinnett, 2022
6-foot-4, 190-pound right-handed pitcher and first baseman, lanky frame. Krystopa is a primary pitcher who has a future on the mound, as he has made considerable progress in the past year. Given his current projectable frame and present low-to-mid 80s velocity, there is certainly more velocity to come. The big righty only recently added a second pitch to his arsenal, a changeup that shows slider like movement and has swing and miss potential.

Season Stats: PITCHING - 6 IP, 13 K's, 2 BB, .000 ERA, .833 WHIP, .143 BAA, 1 complete game, 1 Win / .833 BA, .917 OBP, 2.250 OPS, 1.333 SLG, 4 RBI

Alex Maxey, 3B/RHP, Central Gwinnett, 2022

5-foot-10, 215-pound corner infielder and right-handed pitcher, broad, strong build, has done a great job leaning and adding usable muscle to his frame over the past year. Maxey possesses a power bat with ample bat speed.

Season Stats: .556 BA, .583 OBP, 1.139 OPS, .556 SLG, 6 RBI

Omar Zachery, 1B/C, Central Gwinnett, 2023
5-foot-9, 180-pound first baseman and catcher, also saw time in the outfield. Only took up baseball over the past three years and has shown true promise. A high IQ ball player, he swings it well and has good foot speed. Defensively, has great hands at first base and advanced flexibility. Served as back up catcher and held the position well, arm works well, only had one stolen base against.

Season Stats: .889 BA, .917 OBP, 2.139 OPS, 1.222 SLG, 5 RBI / PITCHING - 2.2 IP, 7 K's, 1 BB, 2.62 ERA, .750 WHIP, .111 BAA, 1 Win

Felipe Lopez, SS/2B, Central Gwinnett, 2023
5-foot-9, 145-pound middle infielder, projectable athlete. As he matures and fills out, his tools will play well in all facets of the game. Has quick, reliable hands up the middle, athleticism allows for him to range to both sides with ease. Only a freshman, has shown leadership qualities, a hard worker who does everything that is asked of him with no complaints, executes plays when called upon.

Season Stats: .667 BA, .769 OBP, 4 RBI
