The PBR MN Prospect ID- Hopkins event took place on Wednesday, July 10, 2019. The event was held at Hopkins High School in Minnetonka, MN. The event featured prospects from the 2021 and 2022 grad classes; and included many breakout performances from this year's participants. Players showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff and college coaches in attendance. Thank you to the players, parents, my staff; along with the staff at Hopkins High School for such a great event.

pitchER EVALUATIONS (ALPA)

Darion Alexander, OF/RHP, Minnewaska, 2021
6-foot-1, 175-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. 6.95 runner.  Balanced open stance.  Small leg lift and hand load to start.  Good swing plane through zone.  Gap to Gap approach with line drive and fly ball contact.  Consistent solid contact and flashed pop in barrel.  83 mph exit velocity.  OF- Moves athletically to field.  Good feet to field and through release.  Average glove.  82 mph arm strength with average carry and accuracy.  On mound- Athletic frame.  Starts with small rocker step into balance position.  Good tempo and balance through delivery.  Lands with good direction down mound.  Throws from a higher ¾ arm slot with clean arm action.  Fastball has varying action thrown at 76-79 mph topping at 80 mph.  Curveball has 11/5 break with loose spin and average shape at 63-65 mph.  Change-up is firm with cut action at 73-74 mph

Nicholas Argento, RHP/1B, Wayzata, 2021
6-foot-4, 185-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player.  7.46 runner.  Slightly closed upright stance.  Small stride and hand load back.  Flat swing plane.  Pull approach with line drive and fly ball contact.  Average contact and flashed pop in barrel.  85 mph exit velocity.  IF- Attacks ball and feet move well.  Fields ball high.  Makes routine play.  Longer arm action.  80 mph arm strength with good carry and average accuracy.  On mound- Projectable frame.  Rocker step into quick tempo delivery.  Good direction and balance down mound.  Throws from a ¾ arm slot.  Fastball has arm side run thrown at 80-81 mph topping at 82 mph.  Curveball has 11/5 break with average shape and depth at 64-67 mph. Change-up is straight thrown at 67-71 mph.  Follow bat in 2021 class.

Colton Becker, OF/LHP, South St. Paul, 2021
5-foot-9, 175-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player.  6.84 runner.  Open stance with high handset.  Leg lift and stride to square.  Hand load down with some rhythm.  Some stiffness in swing with short finish.  Slight uphill swing plane.  Mid/pull approach with mainly fly ball contact.  Average contact and flashed pop in barrel.  87 mph exit velocity.  OF- Athletically moves to ball and good feet to field.  Clean glove and fields through.  Shorter arm action.  80 mph arm strength with average accuracy and fade carry.  On mound- Simple step into balance position.  Good tempo through delivery.  Lands across body down mound.  Throws from a high ¾ arm slot.  Fastball is straight thrown at 76-77 mph topping at 78 mph.  Curveball has 12/6 break with loose spin at 65-66 mph.  Change-up has fade action thrown with good arm speed at 69-72 mph.  Interesting follow bat in 2021 class.

Joe Blink, SS/RHP, East Ridge, 2021
5-foot-11, 150-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.20 runner.  Squared balanced start.  Two-part swing.  Load is stride and small hand load back.  Good swing plane.  Mid/pull approach with line drive contact.  Consistent solid contact and flashed pop in barrel.  76 mph exit velocity.  IF- Stays back to field.  Fields ball low and out in front.  Funnels in.  Makes routine play.  Average feet.  78 mph arm strength with average carry and accuracy.  On mound- Simple and repeatable delivery.  Good tempo.  Good direction down mound and falls off glove side at times.  Throws from a higher ¾ arm slot with a shorter arm action.  Fastball has slight downhill action for strikes at 75-76 mph topping at 77 mph.  Curveball has 11/5 break with good depths and lands for strikes at 67-69 mph.  Change-up has average fade action thrown at 69-72 mph. 

Joey Bucsko, LHP, New Life Academy, 2021
6-foot-1, 165-pound left-handed pitcher.  Long lanky frame.  Threw from stretch.  Starts from open set position.  Leg lift to balance position and small drop an go down mound.  Lands slightly across body with good balance.  Throws from a ¾ arm action with some sling.  Fastball is straight with late run at times thrown at 76-79 mph topping at 81 mph.  Curveball has 1/7 break with average shape and spin at 60-61 mph.  Change-up has cut action thrown at 70-71 mph. 

Alex Call, LHP/OF, KMS, 2022
6-foot-3, 175-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player.  2019 Future Games Participant.  7.20 runner.  Open and balanced stance.  Small hand load and strides to square.  Flat swing plane and slightly uphill at times.  Mid/pull approach with line drive contact.  Solid consistent contact with some strength in barrel.  80 mph exit velocity.  OF- Good feet and stays behind ball through throw.  Average glove.  Good arm action.  88 mph arm strength with above average carry and accuracy.  On mound- Projectable athletic frame.  Simple and repeatable delivery.  Good balance and direction down mound.  Lands slightly across body.  Throws from a ¾ arm slot with easy clean arm action.  Fastball has varying life at 83-84 mph topping at 85 mph.  Curveball has 1/7 break with above average depth and lands for strikes at 65-68 mph.  Change-up has varying action at 73-77 mph.  Strong follow in 2022 class on mound.

Sajan Chesson, RHP/OF, Hopkins, 2022
5-foot-10, 150-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.21 runner.  Wide balanced stance.  Leg lift trigger.  Body and hand load back.  Arm bars creating length to contact.  Stands up through swing.  Gap to gap approach with mainly line drive and fly ball contact.  Average barrel contact with 75 mph exit velocity.  OF- Average feet and longer into release.  Glove can be stiff.  Longer arm action.  81 mph arm strength with good accuracy and average carry.  Rocker step into over the top delivery.  Tempo quickens up through delivery.  Good balance and direction down mound.  Throws with some effort.  Fastball is 80-81 mph topping at 82 mph with arm side run.  Curveball has 11/5 sharp break with good depth thrown at 65-67 mph.  Change-up is straight at 71-73 mph. 

Ethan Cole, C/RHP, Duluth East, 2021
6-foot-1, 147-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player.  Tall upright stance.  Two-part body load.  Hands load back.  Dives into swing with flat bat path.  Gap to gap approach with line drive and fly ball contact.  Average contact and barrel with 71 mph exit velocity.  C- Balanced setup with high chest.  Average athleticism.  Average glove to receive.  Keeps ball in front to block.  Average exchange with longer footwork.  2.07-2.16 pop times.  79 mph arm strength with average carry and good accuracy on throws.  On mound- Rocker step into high leg lift.  Good balance and controlled tempo through delivery.  Lands across body down mound.  Throws from a high ¾ arm slot.  Fastball is straight at 76-78 mph topping at 79 mph.  Curveball has 11/5 break with loose spin and average shape thrown at 59-63 mph.  Change-up is straight with slight cut at times at 71-73 mph. 

Jarod Cook, 3B/RHP, Chanhassen, 2021
5-foot-10, 202-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player.  6.96 runner.  Upright and balanced stance.  Leg lift and hand load back.  Arm bar creating some length to contact.  Good swing plane.  Gap to gap approach with line drive and fly ball contact.  Consistent contact and showed strength in barrel.  90 mph exit velocity.  IF- Sits back and works around baseball.  Good glove and funnels to field.  Longer arm action.  78 mph arm strength with good carry and average accuracy.  On mound- Threw from stretch.  Gets to balance point and has good direction down mound.  Shows good balance.  Throws from a ¾ arm slot with good extension at times out in front.  Long and clean arm action.  Fastball is 79-80 mph with varying action.  Curveball lands for strikes with 11/5 break and solid depth at 65-68 mph.  Change-up is straight at 69-71 mph.  Interesting bat in 2021 class.

Chase Eiden, LHP, Chanhassen, 2021
6-foot-2, 175-pound left-handed pitcher.  Projectable long frame.  Rocker step into turn.  Quicker leg lift.  Gets to balance position and small open swing down mound.  Lands slightly across body with shorter stride.  Throws from a ¾ arm slot and hides ball well.  Fastball is 78-79 mph topping at 80 mph with arm side run.  Curveball has late 1/7 break with good spin thrown at 69-70 mph.  Change-up has fade action at 68-71 mph. 

Zak Endres, 3B/RHP, Lakeville South, 2022
6-foot-1, 193-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player.  String frame.  7.32 runner.  Slightly open balanced start.  Small hand load and strides to square.  Uphill swing plane.  Gap to gap approach with mainly fly ball contact.  Average contact and flashed strength in barrel.  74 mph exit velocity.  OF- Good feet and attacks ball to field.  Clean glove and fields through.  81 mph arm strength with good accuracy and average carry.  IF- Active feet and works around baseball to field.  Average glove and makes routine play.  79 mph arm strength with good carry and accuracy.  On mound- Small rocker step into balance position.  Simple delivery.  Good balance and direction down mound.  Throws from a ¾ arm slot.  Fastball has arm side run at 79-80 mph.  Curveball has more slider action with late sharp break at 75-76 mph.  Change-up is straight thrown at 71-74 mph. 

Luke Erickson, 1B/LHP, Orono, 2021
6-foot-1, 200-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player.  7.52 runner.  Squared stance with high handset.  Small body load and stride.  Swing is stiff.  Flat swing plane and works down to contact at times.  Pull approach with ground ball and line drive contact.  Average contact and occasional solid contact.  80 mph exit velocity.  IF- Active feet to field.  Glove and body play high.  Glove can be stiff.  Some push to release.  70 mph arm strength with fade carry and average accuracy.  On mound- Bigger frame.  Rocker step into turn.  Robotic delivery.  Runs down mound after release.  Good direction.  Throws from a higher ¾ arm slot.  Fastball is straight thrown at 71-73 mph.  Curveball has loopy 1/7 break at 56-59 mph.  Change-up is 6-62 mph and straight. 

Caideyn Ferrell, OF/LHP, Benilde St. Margaret’s, 2021
5-foot-10, 150-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player.  7.16 runner.  Balanced open stance.  Small stride and shoulder load.  Stays over backside through swing.  Slight uphill swing plane.  Mid/pull approach with ground ball to fly ball contact.  Consistent solid contact with average barrel.  80 mph exit velocity.  OF- Athletically moves to ball.  Fields ball clean with good glove.  Longer feet to release.  80 mph arm strength with good accuracy and carry.  On mound- Simple rocker step into balance point.  Slower tempo through delivery.  Lands down mound across body.  Throws from ¾ arm slot with good arm action.  Fastball is straight with slight run at times at 76-78 mph topping at 79 mph.  Curveball has 1/7 break and more slurve action with loose spin thrown at 65-67 mph.  Change-up is straight at 70-71 mph. 

Riley Findorff, RHP/OF, Woodbury, 2021
5-foot-11, 175-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player.  7.15 runner.  Open balanced stance with high handset.  Strides and stays open through swing.  Flat swing plane and short stiff finish.  Middle approach with ground ball to fly ball contact.  Average barrel contact with 81 mph exit velocity.  OF- Slower feet to field.  Glove is stiff.  Shows overall rawness in field.  Throws with a short arm action.  79 mph arm strength with good accuracy and fade carry.  On mound- Bigger rocker step.  Some movement before balance point.  Good balance with slower tempo through delivery.  Lands down mound with a shorter stride and slightly across body.  Short arm action with some quickness in arm action.  Fastball is straight with some life at 80-81 mph topping at 82 mph.  Curveball has slurve action with average shape and depth thrown at 64-67 mph.  Change-up is straight at 73-76 mph. 

Cole Graham, SS/RHP, Minnetonka, 2021
5-foot-9, 160-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player.  7.55 runner.  Slightly closed stance.  Stride and hand load to start.  Flat swing plane.  Mid/pull approach with mainly line drive contact.  Consistent contact with average barrel.  79 mph exit velocity.  IF- Active feet to field.  Glove gets out late and fields ball deep.  78 mph arm strength with average carry and accuracy.  On mound- Rocker step into balance position.  Good tempo in delivery.  Lands down mound with good direction and shorter stride.  Throws from a ¾ arm slot with slight stab behind.  Fastball is straight at 74-76 mph topping at 77 mph.  Curveball is small break and spins thrown at 66-69 mph.  Change-up has fade action at 65-68 mph. 

Pierce Gritzmaker, RHP/OF, Woodbury, 2022
6-foot-1, 170-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player.  7.44 runner.  Squared balanced stance with high handset.  Small leg lift and hands load down.  Short and stiff finish.  Mid/pull approach with ground ball and line drive contact.  Average barrel contact with 84 mph exit velocity.  OF- Feet are slower to field and into release.  Good glove and fields through ball.  77 mph arm strength with average carry and accuracy.  On mound- Good size frame.  Small rocker step into balance position.  Smooth tempo through delivery.  Good balance and direction down mound.  Throws from a ¾ arm slot with a long arm action and good extension.  Fastball is 78-80 mph topping at 84 mph and jumps out of hand.  Curveball has slurve action with loose spin thrown at 61-64 mph.  Change-up had fade action at 65-68 mph. 

Carter Hanson, LHP/OF, Bloomington Jefferson, 2021
6-foot-2, 183-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player.  7.10 runner.  Good athletic frame.  Balanced open stance.  Leg lift trigger and hand load down.  Some lift to swing through contact.  Mid/pull approach with line drive and fly ball contact.  Consistent and hard contact and flashed pop in barrel.  86 mph exit velocity.  OF- Athletically moves to ball with good feet.  Clean glove and fields through ball.  80 mph arm strength with good carry and average accuracy.  On mound- Projectable athletic presence.  Simple step into balance point.  Good tempo and balance through delivery.  Lands slightly across body down mound.  Throws from a ¾ arm slot.  Fastball is straight with arm side run at times thrown at 77-79 mph and topping at 80 mph.  Curveball has 1/7 break with average spin at 66-67 mph.  Change-up has good fade action thrown at 72-75 mph.

Sam Hingsberger, SS/RHP, Twin Cities Academy, 2021
5-foot-7, 148-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player.  7.25 runner.  Slightly open balanced stance.  Small body and hand load.  Stride stays open.  Flat swing plane and out and around path.  Middle approach with ground ball to fly ball contact.  Average barrel contact.  73 mph exit velocity.  IF- Athletic movements.  Feet work around ball to field.  Average glove and funnels to field.  Quick release at times with some sling arm action.  75 mph arm strength with good accuracy and average carry.  On mound- Quicker tempo delivery.  Good direction down mound.  Throws from a ¾ arm slot.  Fastball has some cut action to it thrown at 73-75 mph.  Slider has tight 11/5 break and an above average pitch at 68-69 mph.  Change-up is 71-73 mph and firm at 71-73 mph. 

Jack Hombach, LHP, Chanhassen, 2021
6-foot, 185-pound left-handed pitcher.  Compact frame.  Rocker step and into balance position.  Quicker tempo delivery down mound.  Leg swing open down mound and tend to fall off glove side.  Shorter stride down mound.  Throws from a ¾ arm slot with long to short arm action.  Fastball is 77-78 mph and straight with occasional arm side run.  Curveball has big 1/7 break thrown at 58-60 mph.  Change-up is straight at 68-70 mph. 

Aiden Huotari, RHP/3B, Breck, 2021
5-foot-10, 175-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player.  7.64 runner.  Squared balanced stance with pre-loaded high handset.  Small leg lift trigger.  Swing plane works down and flat through contact.  Mid/pull approach with line drive and fly ball contact.  Consistent and solid barrel contact with 79 mph exit velocity.  IF- Feet attack ball.  High fielding position.  Average glove.  74 mph arm strength with good accuracy and average carry.  On mound- Rocker step and turn into balance point.  Leg swing open down mound with good direction.  Throws from a ¾ arm slot with longer arm action.  Fastball has arm side run thrown at 70-71 mph topping at 72 mph.  Curveball has slow 11/5 break thrown at 56-58 mph.  Change-up has fade action at 63-64 mph.

Brady Johnson, LHP, Hinckley-Finlayson, 2021
6-foot-1, 185-pound left-handed pitcher.  Simple and repeatable delivery.  Good tempo down mound.  Lands slightly across body.  Good balance and direction.  Throws from a ¾ arm action with some push release at times.  Fastball is 72-75 mph topping at 76 mph with slight run action.  Curveball is 63-66 mph with inconsistent shape.  Change-up has average action and spiked at times thrown at 69-71 mph.

AJ Lee, LHP/1B, Blake School, 2022
5-foot-11, 170-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player.  7.33 runner.  Upright and open stance.  Small shoulder load and strides to square.  Dives into swing and lifts barrel through zone.  Some stiffness through swing.  Gap to gap approach with fly ball contact.  Average barrel contact with 69 mph exit velocity.  IF- Heavy feet with some squat to field.  Average glove and makes routine play.  71 mph arm strength with fade carry and average accuracy.  On mound- Rocker step into turn and leg lift.  Good balance and lands down mound across body.  Tends to fall off glove side.  Throws from a high ¾ arm slot.  Fastball is straight thrown at 72-74 mph topping at 75 mph.  Curveball has slurve action with 1/7 break at 61-64 mph.  Change-up is straight at 63-65 mph. 

Cael Luzum, OF/RHP, Decorah (IA), 2021
5-foot-8, 170-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player.  7.06 runner.  Upright and open stance.  Some rhythm in load.  Toe tap trigger and hand load down.  Good swing plane with quick hands.  Mid/pull approach with mainly line drive and fly ball contact.  Consistent and solid contact and flashed strength in barrel.  87 mph exit velocity.  OF- Good feet and moves well to ball.  Good glove and fields ball clean.  83 mph arm strength with good accuracy and average carry.  On mound- Rocker step into balance position.  Good tempo and direction down mound.  Throws from a ¾ arm slot with good extension out front.  Fastball has late life and heavy at times thrown at 78-79 mph topping at 80 mph.  Curveball has 11/5 break with average spin thrown at 67-69 mph.  Change-up is straight with down action at 73-74 mph. 

Sam Malec, RHP/SS, Woodbury, 2021
5-foot-11, 147-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player.  6.93 runner.  Slightly open balanced stance.  Toe tap trigger.  Strides to square and hand load back.  Pushes barrel through zone.  Slightly uphill swing plane.  Uses the whole field with line drive contact.  Consistent and solid contact with 82 mph exit velocity.  IF- Moves athletically.  Works around ball to field.  Average glove and fields ball out in front.  Makes routine play.  Releases from lower slot.  80 mph arm strength with good carry and accuracy.  On mound- Rocker step into turn and go down mound.  Sidewind body movement.  Good direction down mound and falls glove side.  Throws from a low ¾ arm slot with good arm action.  Fastball has life with run and sink thrown at 85-87 mph.  Slider has sharp and late break at 80-82 mph.  Change-up has good fade action thrown at 74-77 mph.  Follow in 2021 class.

Derek Marrier, C/RHP, Woodbury, 2021
6-foot, 165-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player.  6.95 runner.  Wide base balanced stance.  Small stride and hand load.  Slight uphill swing plane and short finish.  Gap to gap approach with ground ball to fly ball contact.  Inconsistent barrel contact with 82 mph exit velocity.  C- Receives from one knee.  Good glove and shows ability to hold pitches.  Can be late to block with tall chest.  Keeps ball in front.  Longer exchange with short footwork.  Quicker release.  2.14-2.26 pop times.  71 mph arm strength with average accuracy and below average carry.  On mound- Balanced start into small rocker step.  Slower tempo through delivery.  Good balance and swings open down mound.  Throws from a higher ¾ arm slot.  Fastball is 74-76 mph with some sinking action.  Curveball is more slurve with loose spin and small shape thrown at 67-69 mph.  Change-up is 69-70 mph and straight with some fade action at times.   

Adam McPhail, SS/RHP, Rochester Mayo, 2021
5-foot-10, 160-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player.  7.34 runner.  Squared stance with high handset.  Small stride and hand load down.  Stiffer swing and pushes barrel through zone.  Flat swing plane and short finish.  Middle approach with ground ball and line drive contact.  Average contact with 48 mph exit velocity.  IF- Average feet to field and into release.  Glove can come out late.  Makes routine play.  73 mph arm strength with average carry and accuracy.  On mound- Bigger rocker step into balance position.  Good balance and lands across body down mound.  Throws from a higher ¾ arm slot.  Fastball has slight downhill plane with varying action thrown at 74-76 mph topping at 78 mph.  Curveball has early and loose 12/6 break at 56-59 mph.  Change-up is flat with average feel at 63-67 mph. 

Jaiden Mollett, RHP, Chaska, 2021
6-foot-1, 195-pound right-handed pitcher.  Bigger rocker step into balance position.  Quicker tempo delivery.  Good balance and direction down mound.  Lands at times slightly across body.  Throws from a ¾ arm slot with some effort.  Fastball has slight downhill action with cut at 84-86 mph.  Curveball has tight 11/5 break with average shape thrown at 65-69 mph.  Change-up has good down action for strike at bottom of zone at 76-79 mph. 

Chris Morreale, RHP/OF, Rochester Century, 2021
6-foot-2, 185-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player.  7.40 runner.  Upright balanced stance with high hand set.  Leg lift trigger and small hand load.  Uphill swing plane through contact.  Pull approach with fly ball contact.  Average contact and flashed pull pop in barrel.  85 mph exit velocity.  OF- Average feet to ball.  Tends to field ball in middle of body.  Average glove and makes routine play.  Long slower arm action.  75 mph arm strength with average carry and accuracy.  On mound- Good frame.  Rocker step into slow tempo delivery.  Good balance and direction down mound.  Lands open down mound.  Throws from a high ¾ arm slot.  Fastball is straight thrown at 74-75 mph.  Curveball has 12/6 break that tumbles at 60-62 mph.  Change-up is straight with slight cut at times thrown at 70-72 mph. 

Tyler Nelson, RHP/3B, Northfield, 2021
6-foot, 194-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player.  7.06 runner.  Upright and slightly open stance.  Preloaded hands.  Toe tap trigger and dives into swing.  Some lift in swing plane.  Gap to gap approach with groundball to fly ball contact.  Average contact and flashed strength in barrel.  80 mph exit velocity.  IF- Slow feet and sits back to field.  Average glove.  Stands up to throw with short arm action.  74 mph arm strength with average carry and accuracy.  On mound- Bigger rocker step into leg swing.  Lands down mound across body.  Lower half falls through.  Throws from a ¾ arm slot with average arm action.  Fastball jumps out of hand with varying action at 80-81 mph.  Curveball has 11/5 break with loose spin thrown at 59-61 mph.  Change-up has varying action at 72-74 mph. 

Cole Newell, RHP/1B, Maple Grove, 2022
6-foot-2, 150-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player.  7.28 runner.  Slightly closed stance with high handset.  Small leg lift and hand load to start.  Flat swing plane.  Mid/pull approach with ground ball and line drive contact.  Average contact with average barrel and 82 mph exit velocity.  IF- Below average feet and hands.  Stays tall to field.  76 mph arm strength with average carry and accuracy.  On mound- Projectable frame.  Simple step into balance position.  Slight turn and lands with good direction down mound.  Throws from a ¾ arm slot with good extension out front at times.  Fastball is 80-81 mph with arm side run.  Curveball has 11/5 break with good shape thrown at 67-70 mph.  Change-up has fade action at 73-74 mph.
