As we prepare for our 2014 high school preseason coverage, we are going to take a quick glance at teams from across the state.

OUTLOOK:

The Charlestown Pirates and Head Coach Ricky Romans expect to build off 2013's 24-7 record and compete for a conference and sectional crown this season.  The Pirates are led on the mound by Junior RHP Drew Reich.  Reich was 9-0 last season with a 1.98 ERA and 69 strikeouts.  Junior Ryan Jones, ranked No. 65 in Indiana's class of 2015 rankings, will be a large contributor both in the field and at the plate.  Last season the 5-foot-10, 185 pound SS/OF hit .390 with 7 2B, 3 3B, 1 HR, 19 RBI and 24 SB's.  Fulfilling the catching duties is senior Daniel Sprinkle who finished 2013 hitting .341 with 17 RBI and 28 Runs.  Jordan Hensley-Cole will also contribute to the Pirates offense.  As a Junior Hensley-Cole hit .329 and swiped 8 bases.  Senior Darren Taylor will be looked upon for quality innings on mound.  Taylor was 7-3 last spring with a 2.20 ERA and 56 K's in 51 IP. The Pirtates also expect contribution from sophomore Tanner Wespe, who hit .250 with 7 2B and 28 RBI as a freshman.
