2026 Razorbacks Scout Day: Quick Hits
September 30, 2026
Our staff held our annual Razorbacks Scout Day this past weekend at the University of Evansville and got looks on a quality group of 20-plus players from within the organization. A handful of recruitable upperclassmen posted quality metrics during standout showings alongside an enticing group of up-and-coming 2029s who stand as strong follows heading into next spring. Find full reports on both groups below, with the full event statistics broken down at this link.
Top Upperclassmen
+ 2027 SS Landon McCutchan, Evansville North (IN): One of the top uncommitted senior infielders in the state, McCutchan showed in typical fashion with a sound left-handed swing that we've grown accustomed to seeing from him over a multi-year follow. Owning a lengthy, 6-foot-2, 185-pound frame, McCutchan works in-balance throughout a simple operation before turning the barrel on a slightly uphill plane. He matches plane well and drove the ball through the middle and to the pull-side to the tune of a 95+ mph peak exit while averaging 89+ and finding the sweet spot at a 84% clip. An above-average athlete who showcased at both shortstop and third base, McCutchan turned in a 7.13 60-yard dash and showed a tick above average arm across with a sure-handed, steady nature on the infield. He could likely profile in many spots at the college level with enough hit-ability to impact the game immediately depending on where he ends up. Plenty of upside with likely more power on the way as he reaches full maturation and continues to refine the swing.

+ 2028 OF Ben Rich, Gibson Southern (IN): Rich was a staff favorite throughout several spring and summer looks and backed it by posting strong metrics across the board in his first showcase with us. It is an undersized, 5-foot-9, 160-pound frame littered with twitch and compact strength to allow the tools the play bigger than the frame. He burned a 6.79 to begin the event and showed off the twitch / acceleration ability by getting out of the gate at a 1.59. The foot quickness and speed should allow him to nestle in as a centerfielder at the next level and he showed off an above average arm, as well, reaching 87 mph during defensive evals. The offensive traits are what our staff values most and the speed directly translates there, as well. He posted a less-than 10% K-rate for Gibson Southern as just a sophomore and the bat-to-ball skills were on full display with each and every look our staff got on him this summer. Rich works from a simple setup with a quiet, repeatable load before turning tight with quick hands as he leads the barrel on a short, direct path. His game is backspinning the ball from gap-to-gap but there is some ability to beat the ball to the front of the zone for occasional pull-side power. His batting practice round at this event showed more firm, low contact with exits peaking north-of 95 mph. With an up-the-middle profile, quality bat-to-ball amongst a host of solid supporting tools, and the left-handedness he provides - Rich should warrant the immediate attention of recruiters.

+ 2028 SS Colt Isenberg, South Warren (KY): There is significant twitch packed into Isenberg's 5-foot-10, 165-pound frame and he showed it off in all facets of Sunday's workout. He opened with a 6.92 60-time and showed above average speed underway. Offensively, the left-handed hitter gets into a deeper crouch with a tight, cocked handset and makes a minimal negative move before uncoiling with some real quickness. There is some drift to the forward move, but the compact nature of the turn allowed for consistent hard contact on balls in play; 93 mph peak exit, 88.7 average. The swing is geared more-towards line drive contact with more pull-side results in this look. I thought he took the best round of infield of the day; crisp actions with fast feet, quick transfer, and got into an 85 mph arm across in a playable fashion.

+ 2028 SS Mason Russelburg, Owensboro Catholic (KY): An upside middle standing at 6-foot-2, 185-pounds with still at least 20 pounds of strength left to be packed on. A 6.98 runner, Russelburg tied for an event-best 10-yard split showing he moves best in shorter bursts. The offensive approach was oriented towards gap-to-gap contact with his best swings resulting in opposite field gap shots. Beginning in a relaxed, open stance, Russelburg holds ground before delivering the barrel with a loose-wristed, uphill path. Exits peaked at 93 mph. On the infield, the Kentucky native showed off controlled footwork with smooth actions. He transfers with quickness to make up for average arm strength. Likely profiles at second base at the college level, but looks to be an above average defender there from what I saw of him at this event paired with the Kentucky State Games in August. The intrigue to the ceiling is provided by the potential to continue to elevate the foot speed and power.

+ 2028 OF Francisco Mendoza, Heritage Hills (IN): Mendoza was a buzzy name for our staff this spring as he posted impressive numbers for Heritage Hills as a sophomore; batted .413 with (12) doubles and a homer. The bat certainly carries the profile as the undersized left-handed hitter produces outputs well-above what his listed 5-foot-6, 165-pound frame would suggest. Starting in a balanced stance with pre-coiled hips and a lower, deeper handset, Mendoza makes a simple lifting stride as his hands remain loose and climb into launch. There is some impressive torque as he uncoils with advanced bat speed for the age and frame to lift the ball deep to his pull-side gap. Shows present pull-side power with exits rounding to 98 mph. Likely profiles in a corner, average to a tick better runner at a 7.04 with average arm strength.

+ 2028 C Gavyn Fenwick, Bullitt East (KY): Fenwick's batting practice round was the loudest of the day as the barrel-chested, 6-foot, 207-pounder reached exit velocity peaks of 101 mph with (9) batted balls belted at 95-plus. Virtually everything was hit hard and he was able to lift the ball in the air to the big part of the field, and to the pull-side, with authority. Beginning with cocked hands that are ready to fire, Fenwick lifts and coils from a slightly open stance into a big leg kick stride. The control of the lower half was impressive as he was able to time up when his front foot got in the ground consistently. Turns behind the ball with a more-uphill path. The frame creates a presence behind the dish; has some ability to receive with developing catch-and-throw skills. Highest ceiling is as a power hitting backstop if the defense refines, at worst could play on the corner infield where his bat has enough substance to carry him. Power is the carrying trait and creates an easy college-level floor.

+ 2028 C/SS Brooks Lynam, Mclean County (KY): Wiry, 6-foot-3, 175-pounder who stood out with arm strength and a solid base of skills at multiple defensive positions. Catch-and-throw abilities behind the plate are well-above average for the age; 78 mph from the crouch with pops as low as 2.02. Has the ability to play on the dirt, as well, with clean actions there. Switch hitter whose bat will likely continously enhance as he adds strength, short & simple loose-wristed swing from both sides of the dish with a peak exit of 92.1 mph. Strength gains / maturation will pay dividends to all parts of his game.

Standout Underclassmen
+ 2029 RHP Beckett Dubord, Evansville Christian (IN): Looking the part of one of the highest-ceiling arms in Indiana's 2029 class, Dubord made quiet the impression in his first Prep Baseball event. Oozing projection within a younger-looking, long-levered, 6-foot-3, 190-pound frame, Dubord gradually builds pace in the delivery as he lifts to a moderate-heighted, even balance point before a dynamic, downhill drive. The arm is loose with natural whip as it works in a cleaner, more-compact fashion with some real quickness to the front. Fastball sat 85-87.4 with both rise and run properties at times. The secondaries are shaped well but lack bite/teeth for now; showed both a CB and SL in the low-70s. Killed spin on a changeup that flashed as an interesting offering, as well. There is real upside here as Dubord could likely make substantial velocity gains in the next two years.

+ 2029 RHP/UTL Joshua Embrey II, Christian County (KY): Athletic, 5-foot-11, 161-pounder with some dynamic rotational patterns on the hill. Short strider with efficient hip-to-shoulder separation that powers a fast arm. Showed a pair of fastball shapes; 4S at 83-85 and sinker at 81-83. Shaped a 73-74 mph slider well that he had feel for, flashed sharp break with it. 75-77 change is a quality offering, as well. Quality athlete who got on the mound after showing as both an infielder and outfielder during the position player workout; could likely reach a tick or two higher velocities if completely fresh. While there are certaintly things to like as a position player, I leave most bullish on the movement patterns and arm talent he showed on the hill with future jumps likely if a strong offseason is had.

+ 2029 RHP/SS Brody Deal, Tecumseh (IN): Casually cruising through his bullpen with low-effort, Deal comfortably filled up the zone while showing one of the cleanest, most repeatable operations of the day. A wiry multi-sport athlete standing at 6-foot-2, 170-pounds, Deal worked 79-83.4 with some carry life to a heater that was in-zone at a 71% clip. The loose, athletic, semi-compact nature of the arm stroke allowed him to spin a breaking ball that holds out-pitch upside; avg 2400+, T2508, with up to 17" of sweep and sharp break. Turned over a mid-70s straight change to round out the arsenal. Chance to make jumps with the low-effort nature and athleticism if strength gains occur.

+ 2029 RHP Cale Hazelip, Tecumseh (IN): Yet another 2029 arm who left as a quality follow for our staff after showing a +4 mph velocity tick compared to his last event with us just 3 months ago. Projectable, high-waisted, 6-foot-2, 160-pounder with ample room for strength as he continues to mature; young face with much more maturation to be had. Short strider who pitched at a lower effort level. Gets quality hip-to-shoulder separation as he strides with control and draws a loose arm back on a shorter path. Arm works deep into layback as he gets to an over-the-top slot. Cut/ride fastball played at 81-83 with strength likely to enhance the velocities. Showed both a CB and SL; the slot indicates the CB will be the best long-term option as he spun it at 2500+ on average with true top-down shape. Though inconsistent in this look, the breaking ball has a chance to be a true out-pitch with continued refinement. Rounded the arsenal with a firmer, sinker-like changeup at 77-79.

+ 2029 1B Jameson Newton, Webster County (KY): Showing some of the biggest power at the event despite being one of the younger players, Newton found his name atop the leaderboard for the furthest batted ball of the day at 385 feet. Reaching a peak exit of 99 mph, the 6-foot-1, 221-pound first baseman got to his power in a relatively easy fashion. Setting up in a crouched, somewhat hunched, wide stance, Newton makes a short hip coil load with quiet hands before rotating with authority. Shorter path that worked direct; is able to backspin the ball.
