Floyd Central improves to 20-0, downs Seymour 11-3

Floyd Knobs, IN--- It was a business-like approach for the No. 1 ranked, 20-0 Floyd Central Highlanders Thursday evening when they took on conference foe Seymour. Floyd Central wasted no time to cease control of the game scoring three runs in the first inning, keyed by 2015 Trey Fulton’s double off the wall that scored Jacob Snodgrass. Fulton would finish the day 2-4 with 2RBIs and 2 runs scored.

After the first the Highlanders were able to coast the rest of the game adding 4 more runs in the third making it 7-0 and allowing senior pitcher Kyle Sipes to settle in and throw five innings of four hit baseball. Seymour’s only offensive production came off the bat of Kentucky commit, Zack Brown, when he hit a three run homerun in the fifth to pull the Owls within four. Floyd Central responded with three more in the fifth and one in the sixth to win the game 11-3.

The Highlanders are on a mission this year, and that mission is the state finals. While it is still too early to determine if they are the favorite to win the 4A title, one thing is for sure, and that is they have the offensive bats to compete for it.

Floyd Central has the best 1-5 hitters in the state that we’ve seen so far this year.  They do not necessarily have the dominant arm on the mound that can go out and throw a shutout every time out, but they do possess four arms that will keep them in every game.

The sectional will be the toughest test for the Highlanders as they could potentially have to beat 3 division one arms in Zach Brown for Seymour, Trent Astle from Jeffersonville, and Brandon Johnson of New Albany. All three have the ability to shut out any dominant hitting team in the state.
