Bloomington, IN---The Bloomington South Panthers beat Conference Indiana rival Lawrence Central 5-1 Thursday evening, in a game that featured two highly touted arms on the mound. South’s Gage Rogers got the start for the Panthers, throwing a complete game, getting six strikeouts and scattering nine hits. Rogers showcased a mid to upper 80’s fastball, touching 90 mph on three occasions. Lawrence Central sophomore ace, Jarrett Montgomery, earned the start for the Bears. Montgomery, currently the No. 1 prospect in Indiana’s 2015 class, sat in the upper 80’s through his three innings of work, touching 91 mph.
Lawrence Central got on the board first in the top of the first inning on senior Matt Greenwell’s (Manchester commit) RBI double. The Panthers responded quickly in their half of the inning, tying the game 1-1 on junior Jordan Parrott’s double.
After the Bears’ quick start, their offense would not produce another run the rest of the evening. South scored three runs in the bottom of the second to take a 4-1 lead. The Panthers scored their first run of the inning on junior Austin Knapp’s RBI infield hit. The Panthers scored again on an RBI ground out from senior Nolan Rogers (Vanderbilt commit), and then put one more run across the plate on a wild pitch.
South would add an insurance run later in the game to take the four run lead, which would be enough for the Panthers to claim their 10th victory of the year.
