The 2014 Major League Draft takes place June 5-7. It will begin Thursday evening at 7 p.m. EST with the first day consisting of the first two rounds and competitive balance rounds. The third through 10th rounds will take place on Friday and Rounds 11-40 will happen Saturday. The final two days will start at 1 p.m. EST. In advance of the draft, Prep Baseball Report is posting a summary of each state in the coverage area with scouting reports on the top high school draft prospects.
Indiana caught a lot of attention last year when LHP Trey Ball was selected seventh overall by the Red Sox. He was the first high schooler to go in the top 30 picks since RHP Jarrod Parker went ninth overall in 2007. There isn’t that kind of prep prospect in the state this year and the 2015 class has hogged much of the attention already. Scouts are lukewarm on the 2014 class’ talent and signability concerns may leave Indiana without a high schooler picked in the first 10 rounds.
1. Brandon Murray, RHP, Hobart HS, IN
There’s no question Murray has arm strength—he ran his fastball up to 96 mph last summer—and he came out of the gate strong, but didn’t maintain it through the end of the season.
