Oct. 20th Unsigned Senior Showcase: Corner IF Analysis

On Sunday, October 20th PBR Indiana hosted the fall Unsigned Senior Showcase at Bishop Chatard High School in Indianapolis.  Forty players in the class of 2014 from Indiana and three player from KY, IL, and MO participated in the event.  Below we analyze the corner infielders from the event.  

Top 5

1. Joe Ault, 3B, Homestead HS, 2014: 6-foot-5, 185 senior recently committed to Parkland. Shows a projectable frame and ran a 6.85 60.  Across the diamond was 79 with a short arm action.  Shows athleticism in his actions defensively with good range.  Fields it well with a solid glove.  At the plate hits from a wide stance. Inconsistent with his balance.  Slight upper cut in his swing.  Exit velo was 90 mph. 

2. Sam Comer, 1B, Brownsburg HS, 2014: 6-foot-5, 210 pound senior possesses a strong frame with long limbs.  At the plate shows a balanced swing.  Possesses average hand speed with effortless power.  Starts slightly open in his stance.  Shows good carry on the ball, and keeps the bat in the zone.  At 1B shows soft hands.  Good enough defensively to stay at 1B at the next level. 74 across the diamond.

3. Braxton Kreig, 1B, Lawrence Central HS, 2014: 6-foot, 200 pound senior hits from the left side.  Starts open at the plate with good hand speed.  Consistent approach with good balance through the swing. Creates good back spin carry.  Projectable power.  Defensively moves well for a 1B.  Works well around the bag with good feet.  

4. Bryan Roberts, 3B, Hamilton Southeastern HS, 2014: 6-foot, 190 pound senior starts in athletic crouch with no stride at the plate.  Maintains balance throughout his swing. Possesses good hand speed with the ability to hit to all fields.  Inconsistent contact. Athletic defensively with a quick arm (82 mph).  Average hands, fields it cleanly with a good exchange.  All around good athlete.  

5. Devon Sheward, 3B, Marion HS, 2014: 5-foot-10, 190 pound senior starts open at the plate.  Under rotates his lower half with a wide stride.  Posted an exit velo of 85 mph.  Shows quick hands with a short, compact swing.  Projects as a gap-to-gap hitter.  Quick arm action across the diamond (80 mph) with average lateral movement.  Overall average defensively.  

Best of the Rest (In Alphabetical Order)

Brent Blackwell, 3B, Daleville HS, 2014: 5-foot-10, 185 pound senior was 69 mph across the diamond.  Raw actions defensively.  Needs to continue to improve his lateral quickness.  At the plate displayed good balance throughout his swing.  Lower half lacks involvement.  Exit velo was 72 mph. 

Cody Fowler, 1B, Franklin Community HS, 2014: 6-foot-1, 195 pound senior posted an exit velo of 86 mph.  Good loose lower half along with loose hands.  Swing path is a little long.   Athletic throughout his swing.  Projectable power. Projects to be a next level hitter.  In the field works well around the bag.  Average defensive 1B.

Caleb Maddox, 3B, Daleville HS, 2014: 6-foot, 200 pound senior possesses a big frame. Shows a hip slide at the plate.  Swing plane is uphill and long.  Across the diamond was 68 mph.  Fields it deep with an average glove.

Austin Rybicki, 1B, Bishop Luers HS, 2014: 6-foot-4, 210 pound senior possesses a big frame with lots of strength.  At the plate uses a slight leg kick and starts open.  Use of lower half is inconsistent.  Gets to extension.  Projectable power hitter.  Exit velo is 87 mph. Lacks premium arm strength.  Average defensive actions.

Terick Warner, 1B, Shenandoah HS, 2014: 6-foot-3, 190 pound senior possesses some athleticism in his swing, but really raw throughout.  Hits from closed stance with a rigid load.  Across the diamond was 73 mph with some lateral quickness. Ran a 7.35 60.
