Fresh off of a 2012 Class 2A state championship, the Northfield Norseman are eager to take the field this spring. Coach Tony Uggen returns six starters and five pitchers to talented team with expectations of returning to the state finals. The Norseman finished their magical season with a 29-5-1 overall record and ran through the Three Rivers Conference with a perfect 7-0 record to capture the championship.

Northfield will be led by senior ace Ryan Keaffaber. A future Indiana State Sycamore, Keaffaber powered the Norseman to a state title last season with a perfect 16-0 record on the mound. With a gaudy 35-2 career record, the left handed Keaffaber stifled opposing teams in 2012 with a 1.22 ERA and 164 strikeouts in 108 innings of work.  Keaffaber also hit .426 with three home runs and 45 RBI’s.

Coach Uggen returns a very talented senior infield including Collin Dawes (2B), Andy Roser (3B/C/RHP), and Joseph Ross (1B). Dawes batted .287 last year and will step in to a larger role in the lineup this season.  Roser, a Manchester University (IN) signee, is the leading returning bat for the Norseman. Roser batted .470 and knocked in 40 runs while only striking out twice all season. Ross is an anchor for the Norseman's defense at first base and provides pop at the plate. Ross batted .333 last season and also contributed on the mound with a 3-1 record.

A promising sophomore who will step into the starting shortstop spot vacated by graduation is Adam Roser, younger brother of Andy Roser. Adam started at several positions last season and hit .374 with 11 doubles leading off for Northfield.

With a deep and experienced roster, Coach Uggen expects contributions from several other players including senior Dallas Hovey (LF), and sophomores Shane Vigar (3B/RHP) and Tanner Wilcox (CF/DH).
