Preseason Preview: Wheeler High School

By Phil Wade
Director of Operations, PBR Indiana

Coach Josh Long and the Wheeler High School Bearcats will look to compete for a Greater South Shore conference championship in 2013.  The Bearcats finished last season 21-8 overall, with an 11-3 conference record. Wheeler returns five starters, including including pitchers this season.

Leading the way for the Bearcats is senior shortstop and Harper College commit Tyler Crussen, who hit .426 last season. Matt Pappas (2014), Sam Bolla (2014), Austin Whitaker (2015), and CJ Wodetzki will lead the Bearcats on the mound. Whitaker, a 5-foot-9 RHP, possessed a 1.69 ERA in 2012. Freshman Jake LaFever (RHP/MIF) also expects to be a contributor in 2013.

The Bearcats will likely compete with Bishop Noll and Whiting for the 2013 conference championship.
