Q and A with Ohio State Commit Tanner Tully

Tanner Tully is a 6-foot, 175 pound LHP out of Elkhart Central High School.  The lefty was on a lot of college coaches radars this past year with his mid to upper 80's fastball and good off speed pitches. Tully officially committed to Ohio State University last month.  PBR Indiana recently had the opportunity to ask Tully about his commitment, this past season, and his upcoming senior year.

PBR: What were your final stats for Elkhart last season?

Tully:   My stats were .362 BA, H 34, RBI 29, HR 6, ERA .30, IP 46, ER 2, and K 64.

PBR: What were your final stats for the Chargers this summer?

Tully: I played in five tournaments and my stats were BA .365,  H 23, RBI 23,  ERA 1.38, IP 39, ER 6, K  59, and a record of 6-0.

PBR: Describe you experience playing for the Indiana Chargers.

Tully: I have played three summers with the Indiana Chargers and have enjoyed every summer.

PBR: You had a lot of schools interested in you, why did you choose Ohio State?

Tully:  I picked OSU because it was the best fit for me. I really like the coaching staff and the campus/facilities.  I think I will have the best opportunity at OSU to better myself as a baseball player.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Tully:  I was considering IU, MSU, Cincinnati, Louisville and John Logan.

PBR: Where did Ohio State first see you compete?

Tully:  I don't know where OSU first saw me, but I know they saw me at the Area Code Try-out in Pendleton.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play during your first year on campus?

Tully:  The coaching staff at OSU expects me to come out and compete, work hard and win games.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Tully:  My family and coaches have had the biggest impact on me as a baseball player.

PBR: You were a member of Team Indiana at the inaugural Midwest Futures games in 2011, talk about your experience playing for Team Indiana and the overall event itself.

Tully:  I play football in the fall, so I came to the Midwest Future Games on Sunday only, but I thought it was a great experience and I liked meeting new teammates. The competition was really good.

PBR: What is your routine going into this off season? Is there anything in particular you will be focusing on?

Tully: I plan on lifting weights and getting stronger over the winter. I will work hard on my hitting and pitching.

PBR: Now that you’ve committed, what are your goals both individually and for your HS team going into next spring?

Tully:  My goals for my high team next season are to make it as far as possible, hopefully to State and win!!  My own goals are to help my teammates be the best that we can all be.  I want to do better than last season and to have fun our last year together.
