Q&A with Huntington Commit Dax McLochlin

Dax McLochlinThe No. 72 ranked player in Indiana class of 2015 rankings recently committed to Huntington University. Dax McLochlin, a 6-foot-2, 180 pound senior at Noblesville High School, possesses a strong, accurate arm with some athleticism.  He's capable of playing multiple positions in the infield as well as pitch.  At the Top Prospect Games last June he showcased a fastball up to 82 mph. 

PBR: Ultimately, why did you choose Huntington?

McLochlin: I ultimately chose Huntington because the school is a great fit academically and the baseball program is headed to the next level.  They are planning a new stadium in the next few years.  I am also excited to play with my brother again.

PBR: Where did Huntington first see you compete?

McLochlin: Huntington first saw me at Noblesville in the spring. 

PBR: When did you take your first visit? 

McLochlin: I met with the coach and admissions on campus in September, but had visited my brother several times. 

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play when your first arrive on campus?

McLochlin: The coaches think I have an opportunity at a number of positions including pitching.  Fall season will help see where I fit best.

PBR: Were there any other schools you were considering?

McLochlin: I had looked at a school in Florida and had some other programs like Anderson and Wabash that were interested. 

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer, and how has playing for them impacted you as a baseball player?

McLochlin: I played for the Indiana Nitro and Indiana Mustangs the past few years and am grateful for the support of coach Eric Dill and Scott Ayers. 

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

McLochlin: My biggest influence in baseball has been my dad. I have looked up to him growing up and he has been my biggest supporter throughout my years of baseball. 

PBR: What are individual goals as you head into the off-season?

McLochlin: My goals heading into the off-season are to get faster and do all I can to improve my pitching and help our team get back to Victory Field in the spring. 

PBR: You played on the 4A state championship team this past year at Noblesville, talk about that experience.

McLochlin: Going to victory field was an experience I will never forget. Winning a 4A state championship is something I have always dreamed about. For it to come true is something I will remember for my whole life. 

PBR: What were your stats last spring at Noblesville?

McLochlin: I hit 295 with 10 doubles and 24 RBI.  I was 4-1 with a 1.53 ERA on the mound 

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher you've faced in Indiana?

McLochlin: The toughest pitcher I faced was my fall teammate Nolan Watson.  His fastball jumps and has a great slider.
