Three 2014s Pick Their Schools

By Blake Hibler

The month of July is always a hot month for commitments, and Indiana had three 2014 players made a huge splash in the recruiting game this week.  Jeff Scott, Logan Sowers, and Ben Kocher all picked their schools.

Jeff Scott was the first to announce.   Scott, a member of Team Indiana at the 2012 Midwest Future Games and Indiana’s No. 19 prospect in the 2014 class, chose Costal Carolina over Xavier.  Scott possesses a good skill set behind the plate that projects to improve quickly when he gets on campus. Scott is a part time catcher currently, as he does not catch for his high school team. Jeff is Clinton Central’s number one on the mound and the starting shortstop.

No. 12 Ben Kocher, an infielder from Zionsville, was considering Xavier, Campbell, and Samford before making his decision to commit to Bellmont. Bellmont’s academics, ability to play right away, and the city of Nashville were deciding factors in Kocher’s decision.  He is one of the better in-game hitters in the class, and possesses a good frame with athleticism. While it is still to be determined where he will play in the field, Kocher will hit as soon as he gets on campus.

Logan Sowers, a 2014 outfielder from McCutcheon HS, chose Indiana over Kentucky. Sowers, ranked No. 5 in Indiana’s 2014 class, was one of the biggest risers in the 2014 class.  He seemed to click offensively this summer and changed the raw power into a more consistent swing.  Sowers began to receive several big offers and also made the East Coast Pro team. He has tremendous upside in his 6-foot-4 frame. If he continues to develop his power, look for Sowers to find his way into IU’s middle of the order.
