Scouting Report

3/31/18 Spring Scout Blog: Almost a dozen pro scouts were in to see the #1 player ranked in the state, #34 ranked overall in the country. The 6-foot-2, ultra competitive and athletic twitch prospect did not disappoint, showcasing on the mound, at the plate, and centerfield. Started game 1 and went 4.0IP, giving up 6 Hs, 2 ERs, only 1BB, and struck out 7 CG hitters. Fastball was 89-91, touching a 92 in the second inning, showed command of the pitch to both sides of the plate. Changeup was a plus pitch with arm side fade at 74-75 to LHH, missed bats for strikeouts. Flipped in an average breaking ball with good shape at 76-77, kept hitters off balance. Advanced swing and bat speed at the plate, hit hard line drives pull side with carry in both games, easy left handed swing with power. Finished 2-6 on the day, made couple loud outs to CF and RF, 1 RBI, couple runs scored. Tracked a ball to deep CF in second game, runs and strides easy, made catch against the fence. Big time upside with advanced tools, will have a decision to make at end of season.

6/27/17 Midwest Prospect League:  Quiet, rhythmic and simple, yet he generates the same electric bat speed with his hands. In a game against the Wisconsin Hitters, he went 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. He also showed off his plus athleticism with a diving catch in centerfield and flying around the bases. Overall, he’s a high-level quick-twitch athlete with wiry strength and plenty of room for continued physical development. It’s easy to dream on the upside as he begins to gain more strength.

4/1/17 Game Notes:
Schnell displayed his advanced athleticism on the bases and in the field. The 6-foot-2 Louisville commit is balanced and athletic at the plate with a leg kick and quick bat. Drives fastball to left-center gap but can be a gap-gap power guy with plenty of extra base power potential. Showed off an extremely strong CF arm and good range. Swiped a few bags at first and second. Very active in all facets. Plays game with confidence.

2/19/17:
Athletic, lean build at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds.  Offensively, the left-handed hitter hits from an athletic setup, leg kick timing trigger.  Swagger approach in the box, quick bat speed with a long path that regularly gets to extension.  Showcased gap-to-gap power with homerun power potential. Registered a high exit velocity of 92 mph. Defensively, possesses athletic actions, plays through the baseball, quick feet.  Plus arm in the OF, quick, loose arm action with carry at 95 mph.  Ran a 6.81 in the laser-timed 60 yard dash.  Louisville commit.

10/8/16: Louisville commit, No. 7 ranked player in Indiana, 57th overall in 2018 class.  The 6-foot-2 170 pound outfielder impressed on the mound this weekend.  In his first outing, fastball sat 86-88 with slight run.  Later that day, he popped a 92 and a 93 while sitting 86-89.  Arm action is loose with a fast hands.  Creates downhill angle with an athletic delivery.  Schnell also showed off the bat with a triple into the gap as he seemed to hit the next gear as he got to second base.  Very high end athlete with versatility.

6/22/15:
Projectable 6-foot-1, 155 pounder, ran a 6.97-60.  Possesses a strong accurate arm from the OF at 89 mph.  Athletic actions with quick, fluid feet.  Offensively, the LHH hits from a tall, open setup.  Loads back, uses a leg kick.  Good use of the lower half and shows good balance.  Above average bat speed.  Advanced approach at the plate.  Level path, gets to extension showing gap to gap power.  Recorded a high exit velocity of 83 mph.  High follow in the 2018 class.

7/29/14:  5 foot 11 inches, 140 pounds, 7.12/60, Tall, thin, athletic player that throws 80 mph from the outfield with a long ¾ arm slot. All his throws were on target with average carry. Aggressive fielder with average hands and fluid feet and a solid ball transfer. At the plate he drives the ball to all fields from an open stance with a short stride and good extension through contact. Very projectable.
