Indy Preseason ID : Quick Hits
February 23, 2024
On Monday, February 19th, the PBR Indiana staff made the short trip to Roundtripper Sports Academy to host the Indy Preseason ID. This event was the third stop on our Preseason ID tour, where we travel around the state to identify top prospects from all areas of Indiana.
Over 50 prospects from around the state showcased their talents this past weekend and participated in a pro-style workout, gathering unrivaled access to data through our state-of-the-art tech partners, as well as in-depth scouting analysis from our Prep Baseball Indiana staff. Read along to find notes on the top perfomers of the day.
Find the full statistical breakdown, HERE.
+ My favorite prospect of the event was '27 RHP Eli Hall (Noblesville). Our staff was super impressed with the development that Hall has made since looks last season, now establishing himself amongst some of the top right-handed arms that our staff has identified in a talented freshman class. There is room for growth within an athletic, 6-foot, 175 pound frame and his fastball worked up to 86 mph, sitting 83-85. The fastball works with above average carry (16"+ IVB) and is complimented by an array of off-speed offerings that he showed the ability to command. The breaking ball shows slurvey shape at 69-70 mph with two-plane break, a pitch that has a chance to turn into an out-pitch with continued development. Hall showed an upper-70s change with arm side sink and run, while also flashing a cutter at 76-78 mph with late sweep. The stuff is advanced for the age, but my favorite part about his bullpen was his ability to consistently get in the strike zone, a trait that will allow him to have in-game success. Hall repeats a simple, stretch-only delivery and his ability to create hip-to-shoulder separation allows a quick arm to accelerate to a high 3/4 release point. Indiana's 2027 class continues to get deeper and deeper the more prospects we see, and Hall's performance this weekend should shoot him up the rankings list when we update again.

+ '26 OF Gabe Garcia (Westfield) is a 2026 prospect that has elevated his game each time we get a look on him. Standing at an athletic, 6-foot, 175 pound build with a frame packed with lean strength and twitch - Garcia shined during the batting practice portion as my favorite hitter of the event. Starting in a balanced stance with a slight waggle in the hands, the right-handed hitting outfielder turns a tight, connected barrel to the front of the hitting zone to consistently elevate the ball to the pull-side gap, getting to extension to allow for pure ball flight. With an exit velocity peaking at 97.9 mph, Garcia has a chance to develop into game power as he continues to pack strength onto the frame, and a 6.75 60 adds excitement to the offensive profile.

+ '25 LHP Braden Shaw (Zionsville) provided an upside look in his 'pen at the Indy Preseason ID. Uber-projectable at 6-foot-5, 190 pounds, Shaw showed an up-tick in velocity compared to looks last fall, now working 82-84 mph on a fastball with above average carry (16"+ IVB). His best pitch of the day was his slurvey, 72-74 mph breaking ball, spinning at over 2500 RPM with more sweep than depth. The projectable southpaw also showed the ability to kill spin (835 avg) on a diving, 77-78 mph changeup. Shaw's fastball command is fringy at the moment, but his ability to land his breaking ball should allow game success as he learns to command the fastball. The arm works with a looser sling to a 3/4 release point and there is significant velocity projections left within his frame.

+ '25 2-way Carson Bush (Center Grove) is yet another talented player hailing from the powerhouse program on the southside of Indianapolis. Physically impressive standing at 6-foot-3, 195 pounds - Bush had a solid bullpen session, working 83-86 on the fastball and touching 87 mph on his best bullet. Bush uses a balanced, lower-effort delivery, landing with a short stride with the arm showing some quickness to a high 3/4 release point. Bush spun a firm, tight breaking ball at 75-79 mph, while also showing a stright change at 79-81 mph. On the offensive side of the ball, the physical infielder put together one of the more consistent batting practice rounds of the event, averaging an exit velocity of 92.3 mph, peaking at 98.8 mph. Bush was on the barrel at an 80% clip, showing the ability to get on-plane deep in the zone with a swing geared towards pull-side lift. Despite the physical frame, Bush turned in an above average run time with a 7.16 60 yard dash.

+ '25 RHP Max Meyer (Guerin Catholic) was an interesting arm to watch with his 6-foot-4, 220 pound frame. Pitching from the stretch with a delivery that gradually builds intent, Meyer sat 83-86 mph on a fastball with riding properties (17"+ IVB). Meyer showed confidence in a sweeping, 70-73 mph slider that averaged 15" of horizontal break with little depth, tunneling off the fastball to show upside as an out-pitch. Meyer's velocity has improved compared to looks last summer and he should be an interesting junior follow throughout the season.

+ '26 2-way Aiden Grabowski (Westfield) is an interesting sophomore follow that put together a solid overall day. I liked the southpaw's showing on the mound, working his fastball up to 84 mph with compact arm action that releases from an over-the-top slot. There is some natural arm side run to the fastball, and he carried it at 18" of IVB. Grabowksi flashed a big, 65-67 mph curveball and a mid-70s change, as well. Offensively, the 5-foot-11, 190 pound OF/1B showed barrel accuracy from the left-side of the dish with a short, level swing. The Westfield product showed more athleticism than the frame suggests by turning in a 7.07 60 time.
