Game 1
Lafayette, IN ? Rivals Lafayette Harrison and McCutcheon faced off on Thursday in a windy game that had two of the state?s top pitchers facing off. University of Cincinnati commit Bryan Chenoweth picked up the complete game win for McCutcheon while junior Michael Carnahan took the complete game loss for Lafayette Harrison.

Harrison jumped on the board early when Junior Nick Bartolone turned on Chenoweth?s 86 mph fastball drving it over the right center field wall to give Harrison a 1-0 in the 1st.

McCutcheon would answer back in the second with three runs. After Carnahan got the first two batters of the 2nd inning out he plunked the eighth hitter, and that would be followed by an error. With two runners on Junior Cody Strong drove a ball to the fence which is where controversy then took place. The ball ended up going under the fence so the outfielders raised their hands. However, before the umpire had the chance to go out and check the ball one of the outfielders picked up the ball. Strong never stopped running, and once the umpires came to a decision Strong was awarded a homerun, giving McCutcheon a 3-1 lead.

Harrison responded in the top of the third with a RBI double from Junior Joe Dinkel who would advance to third on the on an errant throw. Bartolone would then ground out driving in the third run, tying the game.

McCutcheon took the lead back in the bottom of the half. After the first three hitters singled, including a sacrifice bunt that turned into a single, McCutcheon was able to get back to back sacrifice flies. Senior Zach Smeltz was the first to drive in a run also moving the runner on second to third. Junior J.T. Yocum followed with his own sacrifice fly to give McCutcheon a two run lead.

McCutcheon would tack on a sixth run in the bottom of the fifth when Smeltz drove in Chenoweth, who had doubled to lead off the inning.

Harrison was not willing to go down easy. In the top of the 7th sophomore Jacob Payne had a two out RBI double, but that?s all Chenoweth would allow striking out the final batter to give McCutcheon a 6-4 win.
