PBR caught up with Purdue commit Isaac Sampen



Purdue recently added a big time recruit when Isaac Sampen committed to play for the Boilermakers next year. Sampen, Brownsburg HS, multi-talented player that sit mid-to-upper 80s on the mound as right handed pitcher and and infielder that will bring a lot of pop to the Purdue. PBR was able to talk to the 7th ranked player in the class of 2012 to discuss baseball and his decision to play for Purdue next year.

 
PBR: Why did you choose Purdue?
Isaac: I chose Purdue because I felt like I connected with the coaching staff from day one and it allowed me to step in and play both ways right away in a good conference. 
 
PBR: Was it important to stay close home/travel?
Isaac: Yes, it allows my parents to come to the majority of my games and that was pretty important to me.
 
PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?
Isaac: They expect me to step in and make an impact on the mound and on the field.
 
PBR: What were your expectations about recruiting heading into the summer?
Isaac: I had a pretty good idea early on who was going to come after me and it pretty much went as expected.
 
PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that you will help Purdue?
Isaac: I'd say my biggest strength is my work ethic and my desire to get better.
 
PBR: How has travel baseball helped your development as a player?
Isaac: It's helped me get out and see what other talent is out there and anytime you play better competition that can only help you as a player.
 
PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
Isaac: My dad. He's taught me everything I know.
 
PBR: What were your stats for this spring season at Brownsburg?
Isaac: Batting: BA .365 13HR 29RBI; Pitching: 6-1 .80 ERA 45.2 IP 57 K's
 
PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher/hitter that you have faced in Indiana?
Isaac: The toughest pitcher I've faced would probably be Dillion Peters.
