PBR talks with Louisville commit Jordan Striegel

Louisville recently added one of the top players in Indiana when Jordan Striegel committed to play baseball there. Striegel, a RHP/SS from New Albany HS, is ranked 6th in the class of 2012. As a pitcher Striegel can throw three pitches for strikes and his fastball in the mid to upper 80s. He also brings a smooth swing with pop at the plate. Here is our conversation with Striegel.

Jordan: I had taken visits to Maryland, Ball State, and Indiana State but Louisville was always my number 1 choice.

PBR: Why did you choose Louisville?
Jordan: I have grown up watching Louisville baseball since I was little, being that it is ten minutes away. I had grown close to the coaching staff and had some past high school players attend the Unviersity with great things to say. Louisville is also a great school where I look forward to spending my next 4 years.

PBR: Was it important to stay close home/travel?
Jordan: It was definately a huge part of my decison to play close to home.  I look forward to my family not having to travel far from home to see me play. I also like the fact that I know the area.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?
Jordan: The coaches expect me to make an impact my first year on campus and I am working hard to accomplish that goal.

PBR: What were your expectations about recruiting heading into the summer?
Jordan: I had my decision already made going into the summer so I had a stress free summer.

PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that you will help Louisville?
Jordan: I believe my biggest strength as a player is my competitiveness to win and leadership.

PBR: How has travel baseball helped your development as a player?
Jordan: Traveling around, playing higher level competition has allowed me to better my skills and development as a player.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
Jordan: My dad.  My dad has been my coach since I can remember and has taught me a lot about the game of baseball. He has worked with me day in and day out on all aspects of the game.
