Penn knocks off La Porte 10-0

Mishawaka, IN ? Penn started early and poured on the runs during Thursday night?s game between two quality Indiana high school baseball programs. Penn was able to put up runs in every inning and, between two pitchers, limited La Porte to only 2 hits. The game went final at 10-0 after 5 innings.

Penn?s offense got started early when 2011 grad Max Andresen (Miami of Ohio commit) took the first pitch he saw and drove it over the left center field wall to put Penn up 1-0. Andresen would also add a 2B and 2 RBIs during the game. From there the Penn Kingsmen did not look back. Penn was able to rack up eight extra base hits including another line drive homerun from 2011 grad Kyle Schneider (Valpo commit). 2012 grad Caleb Birkey (CF) went 2-4 with a 2B and a RBI as well.

Penn?s two pitchers kept La Porte off balance all night. Starter Tyler Thompson, 2012 grad, threw four innings giving up just one hit, one walk, and one hit batter while striking out three to pick up the win. LHP Thompson was able to keep Penn down mixing up his fastball, which sat around 83 MPH most of the night while topping out at 86, and his sharp curve (64 MPH). He was also able to get a 2B, RBI, and R while at the plate. RHP Sophomore Chad Witmer came in to close out the last inning allowing just one hit and sat between 79-80 MPH on the mound.

La Porte?s starter LHP Senior Jake Eaton took the loss going 3 1/3 innings. He gave up nine runs, six earned, and had trouble getting out of innings because of defensive miscues. La Port was able to get just two hits, one from 2012 grad 1B David Eldridge and from 2014 grad 2B Francis Silfa, both singles.
