Plainfield at Avon

Avon, IN ? A back and forth game broke out between Plainfield and Avon on Thursday. Plainfield would jump out to an early lead, but Avon was able to comeback from the early deficit to pull off the victory.
 
Plainfield would post three runs in the first inning to get things going for their offense. Plainfield would load the bases with one out in the inning and Senior Cody Jones would drive in the first run with a sacrifice fly. After the next batter lined the ball off of the field umpire, Junior Justin Tharp would drive in another run on a single. The final run came in after a dropped third strike that would have ended the inning.
 
Avon would get one run back in the bottom of the first after Senior Jake Burns hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Senior Ryan McPike, who had a one out triple.
 
The game stayed at 3-1 until the bottom of the 4th when Avon put up four runs to take the lead. Senior Andrew Eiler led off the inning with a deep fly ball that was misplayed by the left fielder allowing Eiler to get to second. The next two batters would get out and Plainfield?s starting pitcher, sophomore Matt Keltner, looked to be getting out of the inning, but Burns had a two out RBI single. After a walk Senior Robby Woehrle and Junior Caleb Coy would hit back to back doubles driving in three more runs.
 
Plainfield answered back and would chase Avon?s starting pitcher, Freshman Chandler Sanburn. After the leadoff hitter reached on an error Freshman Gunnar Wells double, followed by singles from sophomore Dillon Hughes and Senior Ryan Kellum. Sanburn would be replaced by Senior Andrew Eiler, who induced a ground ball double play and another groundout to end the inning, but not before Plainfield had tied the game at five.
 
Junior Addison Hummel replaced Keltner for Plainfield and after getting the first runner out Eiler drove a ball over the left field fence to give Avon a 6-5 lead. Hummel would not allow another hit the rest of the game, but Eiler kept Plainfield from scoring and would pick up the win for Avon.
