Prep Baseball Report

Meet the Team: PBR Louisiana Future Games Pitching Staff

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

Each summer, hundreds of families travel to the Lakepoint Sports Complex, in Emerson, GA, for the Prep Baseball Report Future Games, which is the premier event for uncommitted prospects across the country.  The selection process for this year's Louisiana team was a rigorous one, which started with our Preseason ID Events in January, followed by the spring high school season, and finished with our Top Prospect Games and summer schedule of open events.  We feel really good about the 19 players that we've selected for this year's event, as we were able to pull talent from each area of the state. This year's roster features 6 PO's (pitcher only) and 13 position players.  Below, we take a deep dive into our pitching staff, with a look at what college coaches and fans can expect out of this year's group.  Be sure to follow us, across all of our social media platforms, for up to the minute coverage of this year's PBR Future Games!

PITCHERS

+ 2025 RHP Drew Ferguson (West Monroe HS)

Height: 6'1"

Weight: 165 lbs.

Summer Team: Knights Knation National 16U

Future Games Scheduled Appearance: Saturday 07/29/23 at 4:30 PM EST vs. Team Mississippi (1st-3rd Innings)

The West Monroe product is making another return to trip to the Future Games this summer, after leading the Rebels to the Non-Select DI State Title game. In a tough, losing effort, Ferguson was really good in the state title game for the Rebels, running his FB up to 85 mph early and sitting mostly 81-83 mph through his 6.1 IP against eventual champion Barbe. Ferguson is more of a "throwback" style right-handed hurler, as he relies on locating his entire arsenal with the ability to throw any of his offerings for strikes in any count. He finished his sophomore year with a 10-1 record, 1.32 ERA, and 63 K's across 74 1/3 IP, which earned him a spot on our All-State team.

+ 2025 LHP Bryce Wilson (Chalmette HS)

Height: 6'0"

Weight: 150 lbs.

Summer Team: NOLA Baseball Club 16U Scout

Future Games Scheduled Appearance: Friday 07/28/23 at 7:00 PM EST vs. Team Tennessee (3rd-5th Innings)

The Chalmette HS product had a successful sophomore campaign for the Owls, which landed him on the LBCA All-Region Team this past spring.  We had the opportunity to see Wilson up close at our New Orleans Summer Open and he impressed.  Working off the 1st base side of the rubber, the southpaw wastes no time in between pitches, throughout an athletic and repeatable delivery.  He releases the ball from somewhat of a lower 3/4 slot and his mid-80's FB plays up with a lower VAA.  Wilson showed the ability to command to both sides of the plate, while flashing a short & tight 70-71 mph SL, as well as a late-fading 72-74 mph CH.  He's a southpaw who's a strike thrower, so we fully expect Wilson to gain a lot of attention at next week's Future Games.

+ 2025 LHP Ross Lindsey (Natchitoches Central HS)

Height: 6'1"

Weight: 185 lbs.

Summer Team: Knights Knation American 16U

Future Games Scheduled Appearance: Thursday 07/27/23 at 10:00 AM EST vs. Team Alabama (7th Inning) and Friday 07/28/23 at 7:00 PM EST vs. Team Tennessee (6th-7th Innings)

Lindsey is one of two Natchitoches Central HS products heading to the Future Games next week, as he'll be joined by 2025 MIF Brock Laird.  Lindsey was a member of our Jr. Future Games team two summer's ago, and we're excited that he's headed back to Lakepoint with us this summer.  One of the Chiefs go-to guys on the mound this past spring, the southpaw has a very controlled and slower delivery, and uses a shorter and compact arm stroke to release the ball from a high 3/4 slot.  His 83-85 mph FB has good ride and life through the zone with an average spin rate of 2295 RPM's per Trackman Baseball, which was good for the top avg. FB spin rate of any arm that we saw at our summer events.  Lindsey also has a late-breaking 72-74 mph SL that he uses as a two-strike "put-away" offering and a 76-80 mph CH with arm-side sink.

+ 2025 RHP Thomas Allen (Benton HS)

Height: 6'1"

Weight: 170 lbs.

Summer Team: Team Louisiana/5 Star 16U Johnson

Future Games Scheduled Appearance: Thursday 07/27/23 at 10 AM EST vs. Team Alabama (4th-6th Innings)

Allen enjoyed a nice spring for the Tigers, as he was used in both starting and relief roles, on route to earning Honorable Mention All-District honors as a sophomore.  His best pitch is his four-seam FB at 83-86 mph that we've seen get up to 2324 RPM's per Trackman Baseball with good life through the zone.  He's also got good feel for a firmer 80-81 mph CH, that he can land for strikes to both LHH's and RHH's.  In our last look at him at our Top Prospect Games this summer, he also showed an improved 71-72 mph CB with 11-5 shape.

+ 2025 RHP Cade Durbin (Parkview Baptist HS)

Height: 6'0"

Weight: 150 lbs.

Summer Team: Knights Knation American 16U

Future Games Scheduled Appearance: Thursday 07/27/23 at 10 AM EST vs. Team Alabama (1st-3rd Innings)

If you like upside and bloodlines, then Durbin is your guy.  The Parkview Baptist HS product had a jam up sophomore year for the Eagles, and he's continued to perform well on the summer circuit.  At our PBR National Program Invitational this summer, Durbin caught the eye of one of our Georgia scouts, thanks to his feel for spin and athletic delivery.  Durbin worked his FB in the 83-86 mph range from a lower 3/4 slot and was able to command the pitch to both sides of the plate.  His "11-5" shaped CB, however, was the real separator, as he was able to consistently spin it with 2 plane depth and spin rates up to 2902 RPM's per Trackman Baseball.  He also showed the ability to fade an equally effective 73-74 mph CH to both RHH's and LHH's.  Durbin is super young for the 2025 class, which likely means the room to grow is exponential, so we expect him to be pretty sought after at the end of next week.

+ 2026 LHP Lucas Lawrence (Catholic BR HS)

Height: 6'4"

Weight: 165 lbs.

Summer Team: Knights Knation LAK Bears

Future Games Scheduled Appearance: Saturday 07/29/23 at 4:30 PM EST vs. Team Mississippi (4th-6th Innings)

Lawrence is another guy that oozes projection and comes from MLB bloodlines, much like 2025 Cade Durbin above.  The Catholic BR product was a member of both of our Jr. Future Games teams the past two summer's, and is making another return trip to Lakepoint this year.  We had the opportunity to see him at our Lake Charles Summer Open back in May, and he's certainly made big jumps and strides over the last 12 months.  The arm swing is long, loose, and easy with minimal effort.  Lawrence worked his FB in the 80-82 mph range with classic left-handed arm-side sink and run.  His 70-71 mph CB is the pitch that got us excited, as it showed 2 plane depth, and has the makings of a future swing & miss offering, with spin rates in the 2350-2450 RPM range per Trackman Baseball.  He also flashed feel for a 73-74 mph CH.  Lawrence is one of two underclassmen on our Future Games team this summer, and next week will be a fantastic opportunity to cap off his summer, before he heads into his sophomore campaign for the Bears.

+ 2026 RHP J.D. Alexander (Barbe HS)

Height: 6'3"

Weight: 185 lbs.

Summer Team: Knights Knation National 15U

Future Games Scheduled Appearance: Friday 07/28/23 at 7:00 PM EST vs. Team Tennessee (1st-2nd Innings)

The Barbe HS product couldn't have had a better freshman year, as he earned the win during the Bucs 10-4 comeback victory over West Monroe in the Non-Select DI State Championship Game.  In that outing against the Rebels, Alexander worked primarily off his two-seam 86-88 mph FB, that we saw get up to 89 mph in an earlier outing in the spring.  He isn't afraid to bury the FB in to RHH's and he can also work the outside black against LHH.  His best secondary offering is a sweeping 76-79 mph SL that he can land for strikes and swing & miss.  He's our top ranked prospect in the state's '26 class and #20 in the country, so we fully expect for his named to be circled on a lot of college coaches roster packets next week.

+ 2025 LHP Cole Flanagan (Sam Houston HS)

Height: 6'0"

Weight: 205 lbs.

Summer Team: Knights Knation American 16U

Future Games Scheduled Appearance: Saturday 07/29/23 at 4:30 PM EST vs. Team Mississippi (7th Inning)

Flanagan joins J.D. Alexander, as the lone two-way players on our Future Games team this year.  The Sam Houston HS product finished his sophomore year as the Broncos go-to guy on the mound, and for good reason, as he consistently turned in quality outing after quality outing all spring long.  We first got to see him this past spring, against district-rival Barbe, and he turned in a brilliant outing, albeit in a losing effort.  Working off the 3B side of the rubber, Flanagan works through a controlled and repeatable delivery with a compact arm stroke, releasing the ball from a 3/4 slot.  His FB sits in the mid-80's and has classic left-handed arm-side sink and run.  On that night against the Bucs, his 74-76 mph CH was really good, as it tunneled extremely well off his FB and was difficult for hitters to pick up.  Flanagan has a durable frame and starter profile with 3 pitches for strikes, which should make him an attractive prospect next week at Lakepoint.
