Game Performance

2/28/25
The former Future Gamer and Senior Future Gamer looked the part of a #1 starter on what is undoubtedly the state's top ranked team right now in Benton.  Allen got the start last Friday against St. Louis Catholic in Game 1 of their three-game series as was perfect, both figuratively and literally, as he tossed three perfect innings of baseball.  He works off the first base side of the rubber through a smooth and repeatable delivery, and uses a short & quick arm action to release the ball from a high 3/4 slot.  Allen worked primarily off his 88-91 mph FB and did an excellent job of staying behind and on top of the baseball to create good downward tilt.  Although he didn't have to use it much, he flashed a much improved 77-81 mph CB with "10-4" shape, and the pitch was spinning much better than last year, and had more bite down in the zone.  If he can continue to put together outings like last Friday, then he and the Tigers should have a very successful 2025 season.

6'2" 180 lbs. frame with projection still left. The uncommitted junior right-hander toed the rubber for Benton and faced off against another former Future Gamer in Ross Lindsey, in what turned out to be a classic pitcher's duel. Allen worked primarily off of his FB that was 87-88 mph, top 89 mph in the first, and settled around 83-86 mph. He was able to locate it fairly well, mostly to the glove side, and he did see some swings & misses up in the zone. His 78-79 mph SL had cutter shape and is still a developing secondary offering. All in all, it was another quality start for Allen, as he ended up tossing 7 shutout innings, giving up 5 H with 3 BB and 5 K's on 99 pitches (63 strikes | 36 balls).
