Power 25 Rankings Updated
April 9, 2018
The 2018 Louisiana high school season is in its final month of play, as teams around the state are in heated district battles and postseason play is around the corner. Although certain teams at the top have separated themselves from the pack, there has still been some shakeup in this week’s updated Power 25 team rankings.
+ University Lab HS checks in at No. 4 in the updated list, as the Cubs are the lone team outside of class 5A in the updated top ten. Sitting at 21-4, they look to be the premier team in class 3A with a talented roster that includes players like: Louisiana-Lafayette recruit, 2020 LHP/1B Dylan Carmouche, Louisiana State recruit, 2020 SS Will Safford, Southeastern Louisiana recruit, 2018 RHP Grant Upton, and several others.
+ Northshore HS checks in at No. 8 in the most recent list, as the Panthers have dominated opponets thus far, and sit at 23-1. The Northshore offense is explosive with plenty of hitters up and down the lineup like: Alabama State recruit, 2018 C Hunter May, 2019 3B Brayden Jobert, 2018 OF Michael Stutes, and 2018 3B Cole Cavallo to name a few.
+ John Curtis HS moved up to No. 2 in last week’s update, after an impressive semi-final run at the NHSI, which featured 16 of the top high school teams in the country. The Patriot offense hasn’t been consistently explosive like a year ago, however the pitching staff has been nothing short of dominant. Louisiana State recruit, 2018 RHP Will Ripoll has been electric this spring, as he ran his fastball up to 93 mph in his NHSI start, has tossed a perfect game, and is 6-0 with a 0.91 ERA, striking out 61 batters in 38.1 innings pitched, while only walking 14. Louisiana-Lafayette recruit, 2019 LHP/OF Dax Ford has also been dominant on the mound for the Patriots, especially in his last two outings, as he has tossed 12 consecutive innings of shutout baseball, and struck out 15 batters over that span. As well, Mississippi Gulf Coast recruit, 2018 RHP Ian Landreneau continues to be the consistent, reliable veteran of the staff with a record of 7-0, and an ERA of 1.19, striking out 61 batters in 47 innings pitched.
+ Destrehan HS moves back into the rankings, as the Wildcats began to hit their stride as they entered district play. Pitching and defense is certainly the strength of this Destrehan club, and having two dominant starters in Louisiana State recruit, 2018 RHP Landon Marceaux and 2018 RHP Bryce Scioneaux will surely make for difficult matchups for opponents come playoff time.
