Texas Limited Series: Day Three Scout Notes

Toby Bicknell
Texas Scouting Director

Dallas Tigers

Ryan Johnson, RHP, Homeschool, 2021
Johnson appears several inches taller than his listed height of 6-foot-3, 180-pounds with a long-limbed frame. Working from a high-¾ slot with an up-tempo, deceptive delivery, the right-hander was 85-88 in two innings of relief. His curveball has good depth with 11/5 shape at 71-73 mph. Johnson has a high ceiling and should be on everyone’s list of arms to see as there is a really high ceiling.

DBAT - Wilson

+ Switch hitting outfielder Jayden Hill (DBAT-Wilson/Frisco HS) has been on the barrel a ton this weekend, featuring square shoulders and strength throughout his 6-foot-2, 200-pound frame. In the first game, hill collected two singles, both from the right side, and one that drove in two runs. From the left side, he tripled in the second game.

+ Left-handed hitting outfielder Sam Yasilli (DBAT-Wilson/Legacy Christian HS) had a nice day at the plate. Yasilli was on time and showed a natural feel for the barrel in two games today. He was 2-for-2 in game one with two singles to right field, and roped an RBI triple to right-centerfield in game two.

Performance Baseball

Jack Karcewski, RHP/OF, Nacogdoches HS, 2020
Karcewski has a projectable frame at 6-foot-3, 175-pounds, and works from a high slot with a clean arm swing. The right-hander sat 83-84, but it’s not hard to dream that there is more velocity to come in the future. His curveball has good 12/6 downer shape at 68-70. The two-way player and right-handed hitter also had a couple of hits on balls he squared up to the pull side.

Peyton Lewis, OF, Parkway HS (LA), 2020
Strong, athletic frame at 6-foot-2, 185-pounds. The right-handed hitter has a quiet stance with a tall, slightly open stance. Lewis knows how to delivery the barrel and has a lot of upside still to come in the future. On Friday, he was all over the base paths, showing strong in-game awareness by stealing a couple of bags after walks. The swing works and with his athleticism and natural strength, I could see him fitting into a recruiting class nicely.

Texas Stix

Garrison Rice, OF/3B, Hebron HS, 2020
The right-handed hitter has a lean-muscular, athletic, quick-twitch frame at 5-foot-11, 175-pounds. Rice moves well at both third base and in the outfield and has the arm strength to play both positions. In game one, he scorched a couple balls, a single to left-centerfield (4.5 on the turn), and a double down the left field line. Rice has the look of an all-around athlete that will be an impact player at the next level.

Sho Reagan, RHP, Arlington-Martin HS, 2020
The right-hander appears a few inches taller than his listed height of 6-foot-3, 156-pounds, and still has a ton of room to fill out his long-limbed frame. Working with a coiled up delivery, Reagan creates good deception before hand break and showed arm side life on an 87-88 mph fastball. His slider is still inconsistent, but shows promise as it flashes sharp break at times at 75-77. Reagan is an arm that college coaches will want to follow closely as he continues to fill out his frame and sync up his delivery.

Dillon Flores, C, Lewisville HS, 2020
The 6-foot tall, 190-pounder, has gone about his business quietly this weekend, and has an accurate arm behind the plate. His pop times between innings usually range between 2.05-2.2, but his arm works well, and he has thrown strikes to second base, including gunning down a couple of would-be base stealers.

Premier Futures Baseball

Noah Smith, OF, Cypress Falls HS, 2020
At 5-foot-11, 140-pounds, Smith has a not yet fully developed, high-waisted frame and plays with a bounce in his step. Hitting in the leadoff spot, Smith shows an aggressive presence at the plate with loose hands and snap in the barrel. He is a long stride runner that covers significant ground in the outfield and has premium arm strength from the outfield (89 mph)

Kole Tauzin, RHP/3B, Klein HS, 2020
5-10, 170-pound, sturdy-muscular frame with square shoulders. Working from a high-¾ slot with a short arm stroke, the right-handers fastball was 84-87 from the windup, and 81-85 from the stretch, creating occasional tilt and angle. Mixed in a 12-6 curveball at 72-73 mph.

Texas Twelve 2021’s

The Twelve have a talented group of rising sophomores and should be on every recruiters radar to see. They have a strong trio of catchers that also play multiple positions, including Chanden Scamardo (College Station HS) who showed solid arm strength and athleticism (playing third base) on a couple of run-thru plays today. The arm works well from different angles and the right-handed hitter singled through the six-hole.

+ 2021 RHP Anthony Giannette has a lean, athletic frame at 5-foot-11, 155-pounds and showed a quick arm and feel for his breaking ball on the bump. His fastball was 80-84, while his curveball was 70-73 with 10/4 shape.

+ Katcher Halligan, 1B, St. John’s HS, 2021
Really like the setup in the box for Halligan, working from a slightly open stance with relaxed hands. Hitting in the three spot for The Twelve Halligan jumped on a fastball yesterday with runners on second and third and hammered it to deep right field. Off the bat, it looked as if it had a chance to leave the yard, but it ended up an RBI sac fly.

+ Clayton Keeling, OF, Cinco Ranch HS, 2021
Keeling has an already strong frame at 6-feet, 180-pounds. The right-handed hitter made hard, loud contact yesterday with a single to right-centerfield, and fly ball to centerfield, running a 4.94 on the turn at first base.
