Underclass Showcase: Pitchers Analysis

On Tuesday, July 19, 24 prospects from across the state of Louisiana participated in the Prep Baseball Report Underclass Showcase at Holy Cross high school in New Orleans, LA.

Today, Prep Baseball Report Louisiana takes a look at the pitchers that were in attendance.

Pitchers

+ Cory Cook, RHP, Brother Martin HS(2019)
A 5-foot-11, 170-pound right-handed pitcher with a lean frame. Short arm action into high-3/4 release with average arm speed, and some effort. Some rhythm, level shoulders, in-line direction, lands square, and finishes athletic. Fastball sat 77-81 mph slight run. Breaking ball showed 10/4 shape, near fastball arm speed and early break at 63-64 mph. Also showed a changeup with near fastball arm speed and fade action at 71-72 mph.

+ Justin Ibieta, RHP, Country Day HS(2020)
A 6-foot-3, 185-pound right-handed pitcher with a long, lean, athletic frame. Long arm action, slight stab into high-3/4 release with average arm speed and some effort. Some rhythm, uphill shoulders, in-line direction, lands square and finishes athletic. Fastball sat 76-81 mph with slight run, quality tilt and angle. Breaking ball showed 11/5 shape with sharp break and near fastball arm speed at 63-64 mph. Also showed a changeup with near fastball arm speed and ASR action at 67-71 mph.

+ Dylan Kinler, LHP, Dutchtown HS(2018)
A 5-foot-9, 140-pound left-handed pitcher with a medium, lean frame. Long, loose arm action into high-3/4 release with average arm speed and regular effort. Some rhythm, uphill shoulders, in-line direction, lands square and finishes athletic. Fastball sat 74-79 mph with slight run and control. Breaking ball showed 2/8 shape with early break, near fastball arm speed and control at 64-65 mph. Also showed a changeup with near fastball arm speed, cutting action and control at 67-69 mph.

+ Kolby McWilliams, RHP, St. Martin’s HS(2019)
A 5-foot-9, 178-pound right-handed pitcher with a medium, strong frame. Long arm action, slight stab, into high-3/4 release, average arm speed and some effort. Some rhythm, uphill shoulders, in-line direction, and lands square. Fastball sat 72-74 mph with slight cut. Breaking ball showed 11/5 shape with early break and near fastball arm speed at 58-63 mph. Also showed a changeup with fastball arm speed, control and ASR action at 69-70.

+ Halen Miller, RHP, St. Amant HS(2018)
A 6-foot-3, 170-pound right-handed pitcher with a lean, athletic, projectable frame. Short arm action into high-3/4 release with quick arm speed and some effort. Some rhythm, uphill shoulders, in-line direction, and lands square. Fastball sat 82-85 mph with slight sink, solid angle and control. Breaking ball showed 11/5 shape, sharp break, fastball arm speed and control at 69-71 mph. Also showed a changeup with near fastball arm speed, ASR action, and control at 75-76 mph.

+ Dominic Robert, RHP, Brother Martin HS(2018)
A 5-foot-8, 174-pound right-handed pitcher with a medium, strong frame. Long, loose arm action into high-3/4 release with average arm speed and some effort. Smooth rhythm, level shoulders, in-line direction and lands square. Fastball sat 80-81 mph with slight run and control. Breaking ball showed 11/5 shape with early break, and near fastball arm speed at 69-71 mph. Also showed a changeup with near fastball arm speed, ASR action and control at 73-75 mph.

+ Connor Simon, RHP, St. Paul’s HS(2021)
A 5-foot-9, 135-pound right-handed pitcher with a medium, athletic frame. Short, loose arm action into high-3/4 release with solid arm speed and regular effort. Smooth rhythm, level shoulders, falls off to third base, lands square and finishes athletic. Fastball sat 76-77 mph with slight run and control. Breaking ball showed 10/4 shape, sharp break and near fastball arm speed at 65-67 mph. Also showed a changeup with ASR action and near fastball arm speed at 71-72 mph.
