Underclass Trials: Pitcher Analysis

On Saturday, May 21, more than 40 underclass prospects from across the state of Louisiana participated in the Prep Baseball Report Underclass Trials at St. Thomas Aquinas high school in Hammond, LA.

Today, Prep Baseball Report Louisiana takes a look at the pitchers that were in attendance.

Pitchers

+ Ryan Achee, LHP, St. Michael’s HS(2018)
A 5-foot-6, 130-pound left-handed pitcher with an average, athletic frame.  Long arm action into high-3/4 release with regular effort. Smooth rhythm, level shoulders, in-line direction, and lands square. Fastballl sat 61-62 mph and showed solid control. Breaking ball showed 1/7 shape with gradual break and near fastball arm speed at 58-59 mph. Also showed a changeup with slight fade action and near fastball arm speed at 57-58 mph.

+ Lee Blosser, LHP, Jesuit HS(2018)
A 6-foot-4, 212-pound left-handed pitcher with a large, projectable frame. Long arm action into high-3/4 release with quick arm speed and regular effort. Smooth rhythm, level shoulders, in-line direction and lands square. Fastball sat 80-82 mph with late run and solid tilt. Breaking ball showed 2/8 shape with gradual break and fastball arm speed at 65-69 mph. Also showed a changeup with fastball arm speed at 75-76 mph.

+ Landon Boeneke, RHP, Catholic(BR) HS(2018)
A 6-foot-5, 195-pound right-handed pitcher and first baseman with a lanky, projectable frame. Long, loose arm action into high-3/4 release with quick arm speed and regular effort. Smooth rhythm, level shoulders, in-line direction and lands open. Fastball sat 80-83 mph with late sink and tilt. Breaking ball showed 11/5 shape with gradual break and near fastball arm speed at 69-71 mph. Also showed a changeup with sink action and near fastball arm speed at 72-75 mph.

+ Matthew Bratton, RHP, Northshore HS(2018)
A 5-foot-11, 155-pound right-handed pitcher with a medium, athletic frame. Short arm action into high-3/4 release with regular arm speed and regular effort. Smooth rhythm, level shoulders, in-line direction, lands square and finishes athletic. Fastball sat 78-80 mph with late cutting action. Breaking ball showed 11/5 shape with gradual break and near fastball arm speed at 65-66 mph. Also showed a changeup with fade action and near fastball arm speed at 70-71 mph.

+ William Cameron, RHP, Northshore HS(2019)
A 6-foot, 165-pound right-handed pitcher with a lean, athletic frame. Short arm action into high-3/4 release with regular arm speed and regular effort. Smooth rhythm, level shoulders, in-line direction and lands square. Fastball sat 74-76 mph with slight run. Breaking ball showed 11/5 shape, gradual break and near fastball arm speed at 65-66 mph. Also showed a changeup with sink action and near fastball arm speed at 70-71 mph.

+ Juwan Fitch, LHP, Dunham HS(2018)
A 5-foot-8, 135-pound left-handed pitcher with a lean, athletic frame. Long, loose arm action into high-3/4 release with quick arm speed and easy effort. Smooth rhythm, level shoulders, in-line direction, lands square, and finishes athletic. Fastball sat 74-78 mph with slight sink. Breaking ball showed 1/7 shape with gradual break and fastball arm speed at 65-67 mph. Also showed a changeup with fade action and near fastball arm speed at 64-68 mph.

+ Kyle Fontenot, RHP, St. Michael’s HS(2018)
A 6-foot, 170-pound right-handed pitcher with a lean, athletic frame. Long arm action into high-3/4 release, regular arm speed and regular effort. Some rhythm, level shoulders, in-line direction and lands square. Fastball sat 78-81 mph with run and control. Breaking ball showed 10/4 shape with gradual break at 61-64 mph. Also showed changeup with sinking action at 65-67 mph.

+ Dwain Guice, RHP, St. Amant HS(2018)
A 6-foot, 180-pound right-handed pitcher with a lean, athletic frame. Long, loose arm action into ¾ release with quick arm speed and regular effort. Smooth rhythm, level shoulders, falls off to 1B, lands square and finishes athletic. Fastball sat 80-82 mph with late run. Breaking ball showed 11/5 shape with sharp break and fastball arm speed at 70-72 mph. Also showed a changeup with sink action and near fastball arm speed at 74-75 mph.

+ Jake Hammond, RHP, Ouachita HS(2018)
A 6-foot-3, 230-pound right-handed pitcher with a large, physical frame and strong lower half. Significantly improved his stock heading into his rising junior summer. Long arm action into high-3/4 release with quick arm speed and regular effort. Smooth rhythm, level shoulders, in-line direction, lands square and finishes athletic. Fastball sat 87-88 mph with heavy sink and quality angle. Breaking ball showed 11/5 shape with sharp break, fastball arm speed, tight spin and deception at 73-76 mph. Also showed solid feel for changeup with fastball arm speed and fade action at 78-81 mph.

+ Harrison Hutson, RHP, Dutchtown HS(2018)
A 5-foot-11, 155-pound right-handed pitcher with a lean, athletic frame. Long arm action, slight stab, into ¾ release with easy effort. Smooth rhythm, level shoulders, in-line direction, lands square and finishes athletic. Fastball sat 82-83 mph with late cutting action. Breaking ball showed 11/5 shape with gradual break and near fastball arm speed at 65-67 mph. Also showed a changeup with sinking action and near fastball arm speed at 70-71 mph.

+ Dylan Kinler, LHP, Dutchtown HS(2018)
A 5-foot-9, 140-pound left-handed pitcher with a medium, athletic frame. Long, loose arm action into high-3/4 release with quick arm speed and regular effort. Smooth rhythm, level shoulders, in-line direction, and lands square. Fastball sat 78-80 mph with late run. Breaking ball showed 2/8 shape, gradual break and near fastball arm speed at 64-65 mph. Also showed a changeup with fade action and fastball arm speed at 69-71 mph.

+ Jack Merrifield, RHP, Dutchtown HS(2018)
A 6-foot, 180-pound right-handed pitcher with an athletic, strong frame. Long arm action into high-3/4 release with quick arm speed and regular effort. Smooth rhythm, level shoulders, and lands open. Fastball sat 84-85 mph with late life. Breaking ball showed 10/4 shape with sharp break and near fastball arm speed at 67-71 mph. Also showed a changeup with sink action and near fastball arm speed at 71-74 mph.

+ Halen Miller, RHP, St. Amant HS(2018)
A 6-foot-3, 170-pound right-handed pitcher with a lanky, projectable frame. Long arm action into high-3/4 release with quick arm speed and regular effort. Smooth rhythm, level shoulders, in-line direction, and lands square. Fastball sat 78-80 mph with late cut. Breaking ball showed 11/5 shape, gradual break and near fastball arm speed at 68-71 mph. Also showed a changeup with fade action and near fastball arm speed at 73-75 mph.

+ Peyton Parker, RHP, West Ouachita HS(2019)
A 6-foot, 168-pound right-handed pitcher with a lean, athletic frame. Long, loose arm action into high-3/4 release with quick arm speed and easy effort. Fastball sat 77-78 mph with late run. Breaking ball showed 11/5 shape with gradual break and near fastball arm speed at 65-67 mph. Also showed a changeup with cutting action at 71-73 mph.

+ Jace Pendarvis, RHP, Live Oak HS(2019)
A 5-foot-10, 150-pound right-handed pitcher with a projectable, strong frame. Long, loose arm action into high-3/4 release with quick arm speed and regular effort. Smooth rhythm, level shoulders, in-line direction, lands square and finishes athletic. Fastball sat 80-83 mph with slight run. Breaking ball showed 11/5 shape with gradual break and fastball arm speed at 69-70 mph. Also showed a changeup with fade action and near fastball arm speed at 68-69 mph.

+ Beau Ross, RHP, Many HS(2019)
A 5-foot-9, 155-pound right-handed pitcher with a medium, lean frame. Short arm action into high-3/4 release with quick arm speed and regular effort. Smooth rhythm, level shoulders, in-line direction and lands square. Fastball sat 81-82 mph with late run. Breaking ball showed 11/5 shape, gradual break and near fastball arm speed at 71-72 mph. Also showed a changeup with fade action and fastball arm speed at 77-78 mph.

+ Alex Wiltz, RHP, Holy Cross HS(2018)
A 5-foot-10, 155-pound right-handed pitcher with a lean, athletic frame. Long arm action into high-3/4 release with quick arm speed and regular effort. Smooth rhythm, level shoulders, in-line direction, lands square and finishes athletic. Fastball sat 78-81 mph with slight cutting action. Breaking ball showed 11/5 shape with early break and near fastball arm speed at 64-65 mph. Also showed a changeup with fade action and near fastball arm speed at 65-66 mph.
