On Friday, an early evening thunderstorm stopped all action at LakePoint for a while, causing our two 14U games to be postponed to Saturday and our 13U team's 7:15 game to be played late. Because of this, we are going to lump all of the rest of our Pool Play coverage into one story, covering Friday night's game and all of Saturday's action, with Bracket play for all Junior Future Games teams scheduled for Sunday.
14U Team 1
Saturday: Mid-Atlantic 4, Illinois 3
Illinois jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Mid-Atlantic answered in the bottom half of the inning, turning a leadoff walk and flared single into right into two runs to take a 2-1 lead after 1. Illinois was able to tie the game at 2 in the top of the second, and that remained the score until the bottom of the third, when Luke Smyers (Mills Godwin) drilled a 2-out RBI 2B to right center to give Mid-Atlantic a 3-2 lead after 3 innings. Smyers did it on the mound as well, throwing three strong innings, allowing just one unearned run when Illinois tied the game in the top of the fifth. Brayden Bachman (Hickory) threw a scoreless sixth and seventh innings, including working out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the seventh to keep the game tied at 3 headed to the bottom of the final frame. Peyton Miller (Gilman) reached for the second time in the game to lead the inning off and after a Camdyn Via (Fluvanna) single through the right side, Will Rhine (John Carroll) punched his second hit of the game through the right side to load the bases. That set up Smyers with the bases loaded and the infield in, and he delivered with a walk-off single up the middle.

Saturday: Mid-Atlantic 4, Arkansas 4
Arkansas jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the third as the Mid-Atlantic bats were mostly quiet early on, with the exception of a loud Luke Craddock (Highland) single in the second and loading the bases with two outs in the third. Sy Crider (Broadway), Camdyn Via (Fluvanna), Dallas Brooks (John Carroll), and Craddock combined to blank Arkansas over the final four innings and give the Mid-Atlantic bats a chance to stage a comeback. In the bottom of the sixth, that comeback happened. Kaden Barmer (Calvert Hall) and Seth Tickle (Roanoke Rapids) each doubled to open the inning and get Mid-Atlantic on the board. Three walks in a row, including one to Casey Carpenter (John Carroll) who also had a hit in his first at-bat, and a wild pitch put the tying run on third, and Dylan Wood (Greenbrier Christian) was able to hit a deep enough fly ball to drive in the tying runs. The game was stopped after the seventh as a tie due to the time limit.

14U Team 2
Saturday: Alabama 4, Mid-Atlantic 1
Mid-Atlantic's bats were again slow getting started after having not played since Thursday afternoon. Alabama scored single runs in the first and second to open a 2-0 lead. The score held there as Caleb Wood (JR Tucker) tossed a scoreless third and fourth inning to keep Mid-Atlantic in the game. Alabama would then add two more insurance runs in the top of the fifth to make the score 4-0. Mid-Atlantic did get on the board with a single run in the bottom of the fifth. Wood led the inning off with a single and was able to advance around to third with less than two outs and TJ Woodson (Hanover) drove him in with a sacrifice fly. Braeden Loving (Varina) and Jackson Toole (Glen Allen) each had hits as well for Mid-Atlantic and Finn Whipple (Douglass Freeman) worked a scoreless inning of relief.

Saturday: Mid-Atlantic 5, Colorado 3
Saturday evening, 14U Mid-Atlantic 2 wrapped up pool play against Colorado. Mid-Atlantic took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly from Zachary Rankin (Waynesboro). Easton Ogle (Benedictine) tossed the first two innings scoreless and started the third, before giving way to Henry Knighton (St. Christopher's), who got out of a jam to preserve the 1-0 lead into the middle of the third inning. Knighton would also work a scoreless fourth and fifth, going 3 innings total. Mid-Atlantic extended their lead in the bottom of the third when Braeden Loving (Varina) mashed a three-run home run to right-center after a pair of walks. Colorado would rally for three runs in the top of the sixth to cut the score to 4-3, but Mid-Atlantic added a run in the bottom of the sixth and Jacob Martin (Loudoun County) worked a quiet seventh to lock up the win.
14U Mid-Atlantic 2 will conclude its Junior Future Games at noon on Sunday.
