Brandon Mann 1B / OF / Country Day, MI / 2022AUBURN HILLS - Brandon Mann has an impressive family tree when it comes to sports. His father Steve played defensive back in football at Wyoming. Sister Brittany threw the shot put and hammer for four years at Oregon and one at USC, earning All-American honors four times after claiming the shot and discus state title twice in high school. Brother Steve participated for two years in baseball at Duke before switching to football as a safety this year. Half-brother Cortland Selman is a former linebacker at Eastern Michigan. There is also a cousin, Tre Herndon, a cornerback with the Jacksonville Jaguars who played football in college at Vanderbilt before being selected in the 2018 NFL Draft. Now the Detroit Country Day incoming junior has his sights set on playing athletics at the next level. “College baseball is something that I’ve been wanting to do since I started playing,” Mann related. “I was along for the ride to see my brother (Steve) get there and that sparked my interest.” The top-ranked uncommitted 2022 player in Michigan, who plays quarterback and safety on the Country Day football team and is also receiving college looks in that sport, is heeding advice from his older brother. “You need to do whatever you can to put yourself in the best position out there to show what you can do,” Mann said of what he learned from his sibling, who was a 38th-round draft pick of the Detroit Tigers in 2017. Being part of the Future Games last August proved significant for the 22nd-rated 2022 first baseman in the country. |
