Bay City John Glenn RHP Antonio Jacobs Talks Commitment to Grambling

By Mike Penn
Michigan Director of Scouting

Antoinio Jacobs (RHP, Bay City John Glenn HS) officially committed to Grambling State University recently, and the senior will be trading in his snow shoes for sandals this time next year.

He is the second player from Bay City John Glenn to go south in as many years.  Zach Olszewski is now attending Bethune Cookman University in Florida.  Like Olszewski, Jacobs will be quite a ways away from home. 1,103 miles to be exact.  But Jacobs isn't concerned with the distance.
"My mom isn't thrilled I am going that far but this was a decision I had to make. They made a significant offer that I couldn't turn down."

But his commitment to Grambling almost didn't happen.
"I was supposed to go to take a visit and go to Jupiter (FL) but I lost my drivers license right before my trip so I couldn't go."
Thankfully however, Jacobs built a good repoire with the coaching staff. Through phone calls and and emails, he got to know the Grambling coaching staff. Jacobs built trust and a level of comfort so much so that he decided to commit without taking his official visit.
Jacobs, who is currently ranked No. 26 in Michigan and No. 232 overall, is the first to attend the Louisiana school in recent memory. He should make an impact immediately. He posessed a big strong frame and a lively arm with his fastball reaching the upper 80's.
"I am really excited. We haven't talked about the roll much yet but they see me contributing right away."
