Bay City Western HS Looks for Repeat in Division 1

The 2013 Division 1 State Champions in Bay City Western HS are back in the hunt competing for back-to-back state titles. The Warriors recently clinched their 3rd straight Saginaw League Valley North title, and their 4th in six years. But according to head coach Tim McDonald, this team is one of the most inexperienced in his 22 years as head coach.

The 2013 team had 10 seniors, of which six went on to play college baseball including Michigan LHP Brett Adcock (6th overall in the 2013 class), and Western Michigan INF Grant Miller (26th overall in the 2013 class). The 2014 club has 4 seniors with 6 juniors and 5 sophomores making everyday contributions to the Warriors.

Some of those top players include:

-Senior ace Scott Badour who is 6-1 and a 1.06 ERA

-Sophomore Jason Clark who is 6-0 and a 0.36 ERA

-Senior SS/RHP Justin Gorr (Triton College) who leads the team with a .438 average and 28RBI

-Senior INF Seth Freed (Seminole State JC) who is hitting .356 and has 15 RBI with top-notch speed

Most of the games for Bay City Western have been low scoring games, but Coach McDonald believes that the group finds a way to come out ahead with great pitching and defense.

Some of the more memorable wins include DH sweeps over Midland High, Midland Dow and Mt. Pleasant in which the team pitched outstandingly well and found out a way to come out on top.

The team is currently 28-5 with a 13-1 record in conference
