Bishop Foley Rolls Again - Catholic League C-D Champs

Playing on the big stage of a major league stadium can take some getting used to.  It took Bishop Foley all of three innings to get comfortable in their surroundings.  Aided by a few walks and a bases loaded triple by junior DH Michael Reid, Foley jumped out to a 5-0 lead heading into the fourth.

Notre Dame answered in the top of the fifth with two runs with sophomore OF William Mullen driving in a run on a single to right.  Leading off the Foley half of the fifth junior 2B Brad Baldwin laced a triple down the right field line and later scored on a single by sophomore left fielder and Western Michigan commit Nate Grys.

Although the batting order was comprised mostly of youngsters, the Foley hitters showed patience and an ability to use the whole field throughout the day.

The game ended before the end of the seventh due to time constraints prompting a final score of 8-2.

Bishop Foley’s Michael Reid impressed with a long, projectable body while displaying  some bat speed and pop to all fields with a level bat through the zone.

Junior right hander Garrett Schilling pitched all six innings to get the win while using a three pitch mix.  His 84 mph fastball was mostly straight and his ¾ downer curve had depth and bite at times. In the fifth he threw three change-ups in a row that each had sink and proper arm speed, maybe his best offerings of the day, and something for recruiters to look forward to in the future.
