Lance Blaszak RHP / 1B / Saline, MI / 2020

SALINE - There is a long list of players from Saline that have gone on to play college baseball. Lance Blaszak is hoping to add his name.

“It’s always been a dream of mine,” the Saline junior said about playing at the next level. “Saline has had a lot of guys go on to college and play. I’ve watched them and it’s been a dream to follow them, guys like Cole Daniels last year who is now at Kentucky.”

While the recruitment of the 6-2 195-pounder is in the early stages, the 17th-ranked uncommitted 2020 right-handed pitcher in the state has had interest from Ohio Valley and Saginaw Valley State.

“Right now I want to continue to grow and build my game while reaching out to colleges,” Blaszak explained. “That’s a big goal of mine. My mindset on recruiting is to get bigger, stronger and throw strikes when I’m on the mound.”

The last is an area of importance at Saline.

“(Assistant) Coach (Joe) Welton at Saline is all about strikes and commanding pitches,” said Blaszak, one of the top pitchers on a 18-3 squad that has won 14 straight. “He recognizes that I’m throwing a lot of strikes.”

Through his first four starts of 2018, Blaszak had a 0.39 ERA with one no-hitter.

“Getting ahead of guys in the count is big,” the 54th-rated Michigan junior said.

A repertoire of three pitches has helped Blaszak both on the mound and in getting noticed.

“Those I’ve talked to like that I throw strikes, get ahead of hitters, have command of three pitches and have athletic ability,” Blaszak noted. “The fastball I’ve thrown my whole life. It’s my most consistent pitch right now. My change is my strikeout pitch while my curve I’ve thrown consistently for strikes but I’m trying to throw it harder right now.”
