Eastern Michigan and Oakland University Recruiting Classes

By Ryan McCosky

Eastern Michigan University of the MAC conference and Oakland University of the Summit league combined to sign four local talents. The next breakdown will examine the classes of Head Coach Jay Alexander (5th year) and Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator Andrew Maki (5th year). The Golden Grizzlies of Oakland University are led by Head Coach John Musachio (5th year).

EMU signed a talented RHP named Sterling Sharp (North Farmington, Mich.) who is also a star basketball player. Oakland University inked 3 local standouts Connor Fannon (University Liggett HS), Tyler Palm (Ogemaw Heights HS) and Luke Scharich (Bay City John Glenn HS.).

When Sharp heads to Ypsilanti in the fall he will bring with him a tremendous athletic resume. His junior season at North Farmington he no hit the cross town rival Farmington Hills-Harrison and posted a 7-0 record and 1.90 ERA. Sharp has reached 91 mph with the fastball but what is just as impressive was he only recorded 7 BB. He has plenty of upside with his long lanky 6-foot-3 frame and will certainly gain plenty of additional strength.

About 53 miles northeast from Ypsilanti you will find Rochester Michigan home of the Oakland University baseball program and future home of Connor Fannon, Tyler Palm and Luke Scharich. Fannon is a tall, loose, right handed pitcher with tremendous upside. Fannon was derailed a little bit last season due to a non-throwing arm injury, but was available late in the year to help his high school team University Liggett reach the state finals. He creates problems for hitters because of the deception in his delivery.

Continuing in the same trend Coach Musachio picked up Tyler Palm. Palm another projectable player with an impressive 6-9 frame. Some reports on Palm indicate that he is a late bloomer with plenty of upside and is just starting to scratch the surface of his ability.

Scharich is a tough, strike throwing left-handed pitcher. Scharich commands the zone and has a FB in the mid 80’s. Scharich was a large reason for Bay City John Glenn's success this past season reaching the state finals. Look for him and teamates Zach Olszewski and Sam Brooks to contend for another state title this year.
