Impact Transfers: Same Faces, New Places

Every year there are a multitude of transfers that shake up the high school baseball landscape in Michigan. This year is no different. This is a look at some of the top impact transfers in Michigan:

A.J. Rubio (Davison, OF, 2014): Rubio transferred from Goodrich to Davison where he will team up with Maverick Prine, Trevor Stevens, Tyler Ramoie, and Julian Molina to form a dynamic Cardinal offense. Rubio was a Second Team All State selection in Division II as a sophomore and made the Flint Journal Dream Team. His best tool is his speed.

Ben Root (Mattawan, RHP/3B, 2013): Root transferred from Division 3 Parchment to Division I Mattawan and has committed to KVCC. Root hit .477 with 11 doubles, two triples, and two home runs as a junior. He also had 31 RBIs and scored 28 runs. He went 7-0 on the mound with a 2.64 ERA. He struck out 82 in 62.2 innings. Root will form a lethal combo on the mound with Ball State-signee B.J. Butler.

Kevin Suwarsky (Paw Paw, RHP/OF, 2014): While Mattawan gained Ben Root, they lost Kevin Suwarsky to Paw Paw. Suwarsky is a utility player whose best tool is his arm strength. Suwarsky's mid-80s fastball has made him the Redskins' ace immediately, as evidenced by his 19 strikeouts in ten innings of work so far this season. Suwarsky is one of the most highly-regarded juniors in the state.

Michael Reid (Madison Heights Bishop Foley, RHP/OF, 2014): Reid is one of three impact transfers that have made the Bishop Foley Ventures the favorite to three-peat in Division 3. Reid throws in the mid-80s and is a middle-of-the-order bat. He is a legitimate two-way player at the next level and transferred in from University of Detroit-Jesuit. He should team with fellow transfer Chad Gravlin, Garrett Schilling, Mike Murley, and Austin Lukaschewski to form a solid pitching staff for the Ventures.

Chad Gravlin (Madison Heights Bishop Foley, LHP/OF, 2013): Gravlin transferred in from Riverview Gabriel Richard and has made an immediate impact, as evidenced by his five hits in one day during the Oakland County Spring Break Tournament. Gravlin will also add to the Ventures' assortment of riches on the mound.

Nick Bredeson (Bloomfield Hills Andover, C/INF, 2013): The Barons picked up a good one in Bredeson, who transferred in from state power Brother Rice. Bredeson will replace the Barons' 2012 catcher Tim Zobl nicely. Zobl hit in the cleanup spot for the Barons and Bredeson could take over that role as well. The Barons are coming off a season in which they only lost four games and the Ohio University signee will help to build upon that.

Brett Kramer (2015, INF/OF/RHP, North Farmington) and Mitchell Kramer (2013, RHP, North Farmington): The Kramers, transfers from nearby Farmington Hills Harrison, add to a talented Raiders squad that is headlined by Eastern Michigan-signee Sterling Sharp. Mitchell has committed to Madonna University while Brett has a bright future ahead of him. Mitchell was on display in a recent victory over Seaholm.

Ryan Regener (2014, C/SS, Fraser): The athletic Regener transferred from Division 4 Sterling Heights Parkway Christian to Division 1 Fraser and takes over behind the plate for the departed Taylor Grzelakowski, an All County selection who hit over .400 last year and is now playing college baseball at Madonna University. Regener has the build that college coaches are looking for and is one of the top catchers in Macomb County. Regener is also a very talented football player.

Brady Sarkon (2015, C/3B, Linden): Sarkon is a promising young catcher with solid bat speed and defensive skills who should be an asset to coach Steve Beurkel's Linden Eagles. Sarkon transferred in from Fenton. Sarkon is known for calling a good game and being a vocal leader. Sarkon was a varsity player as a freshman at Fenton.

It will be interesting to see how these players affect the State Tournament this year
