PBR: Why did you choose Kalamazoo College?
Zach: I was looking for a school that was trying to be the best at athletics, academics, and preparing students to be successful after college. K-College met all of those criteria. Coach Ott is setting high goals for the team both on the field and off. Although it is a DIII school, it feels like a competitive DI program in a lot of ways with the facilities, coaching, etc. I’m looking forward to contributing toward the team goals and learning in a challenging academic environment.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Zach: I was getting recruited for both baseball and football and many schools for both. I restricted my search to schools that offered both a competitive athletic program and a challenging academic program. Not in any particular order, I was recruited by Albion, Alma, Hope, Macalester, Denison, Knox, Kenyon, Ohio Wesleyan, Dartmouth, Yale.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you?
Zach: Not sure. I think it may have been a PBR event.

PBR: What team do you play for in the summer and what is your most memorable moment?
Zach: The past two summers I played for South Oakland A’s (Lelli). The team disbanded last year; this year I will play for the Michigan Prospects. There were many, but the one I remember most is throwing out the game tying run from center field in a U of M PastTime tournament after I tied the game by singling to left and stealing second, third, and scoring on an overthrow on my steal of third.

PBR: Now that you have committed, what are your remaining goals for high school?
Zach: To lead Northville to a State Championship

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced?
Zach: Last summer at the u18 perfect game world series in Fort Myers I faced a couple of pitchers that were sophomores for D1 Florida programs. Threw low-90s with placement and great off speed pitches.
