Inside the Recruitment: '15 3B Jacob DePillo commits to Hillsdale

Jacob DePillo, 3B, Pontiac Notre Dame Prep, Class of 2015

PBR: Why did you choose Hillsdale?

DePillo: Hillsdale was overall the best fit for me. The baseball program is a great fit for me and I love the facilities. Also, I know I can be successful later in life with a Hillsdale degree.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

DePillo: Northwood, Lake Erie and Kalamazoo College.

PBR:  Where did the coaches first see you compete and how did your relationship develop with the rest of the coaching staff?

DePillo: Coach Thieson saw me at a few of my school ball games and we've been in communication ever since. I believe the coaching staff at Hillsdale can help me develop as a player. I'm looking forward to working with all of them.

PBR: What role does the coaching staff expect you to play during your first year on campus?

DePillo: Coach Thieson brought me in as a Corner Infielder. I'm looking to compete and develop my first year on campus.

PBR:  What are you individual and team goals for this spring?

DePillo: My individual goals are to hopefully get another All-State award. As a team we are looking forward to the Catholic league games. Our goal is to get back to Comerica Park and win the league this time. Also we are hoping to win our district again and make a run for states.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

DePillo: My dad and my coaches throughout the years have made the biggest impact on me. My dad worked with me since I was young and still throws me BP and hits me ground balls. Also, all my coaches throughout the years have treated me great and worked with me to get me to the next level.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most exciting experience playing summer ball?

DePillo: I currently play for the South Oakland A's 18u team. My most exciting experience playing summer ball was 2 years ago when we were down by 3 in the last inning and I hit a walk-off Grand slam. I will never forget that moment.

PBR: What were your stats last season?

DePillo: I hit .473 with 25 RBI's and a homerun.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher you have faced?

DePillo: Garret Schilling or Mike Murley
