Inside the Recruitment: '15 LHP Tyler Butzin commits to Eastern Michigan
October 27, 2014
PBR: Why did you choose Eastern Michigan?
Butzin: I chose EMU because the atmosphere was everything I looked for. The moment I stepped onto campus I felt right at home. The coaching staff just made that feeling grow. I was comfortable with them right off the bat, and I knew that I could be successful there.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Butzin: I was strongly considering University of Michigan as well as Saginaw Valley State University
PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you?
Butzin: Coach Van Ameyde first saw me for a scrimmage against a local team.
PBR: What team do you play for in the summer and what is your most memorable moment.
Butzin: Over the summer, I played for the Midland Tomahawks out of Cincinnati. I would have to say my most memorable moment down there would have to be experiencing meeting a brand new team for the first time and adjusting to being away from home for so long.
PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process?
Butzin: I definitely expected the recruiting process to go much slower. But it didn’t. It all hit me like a freight train, but I think it was more excitement than anything and I’m thankful for the experience.
PBR: What were your stats last spring season at Brunswick?
Butzin: Era: 0.94, 68 innings pitched, 94 strikeouts, 16 walks
PBR: Who is the toughest hitter that you have faced?
Butzin: The toughest hitter that I have faced is Blake Rutherford of CBA Marucci.
