Inside the Recruitment: '16 RHP Joey Prechtel commits to Toledo

Joey Prechtel, RHP, Rochester Adams, Class of 2016

PBR: Why did you choose Toledo?

Prechtel:  My family and I were really impressed with the coaches, the campus, the facilities and the academics.  Coach Mee and Coach Bradford made it clear that they wanted me to be a Rocket during my two visits. I know Toledo is a place where I can succeed as a student and as a athlete.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Prechtel: Along with Toledo I visited Michigan, Michigan State, Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan, and Xavier. The decision really came down to Toledo and Xavier.

PBR: Where did the Coach Mee first see you? How did your relationship develop with their coaching staff?

Prechtel: The coaching staff saw me over the summer and during a few showcases. Once I got on campus the coaches were awesome. Our relationship grew from there

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

Prechtel: They expect me to come in and pitch my freshman year. They are also giving me the chance to play the outfield and hit.

PBR: The Toledo campus is very close to home.  How much of a role did that play in your final decision?

Prechtel: It wasn't a very big factor but it will be nice being close to home.

PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that you will help Rocket baseball?

Prechtel: My biggest strength is my work ethic and competitiveness. I believe what makes teams successful is the offseason and how you prepare.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?

Prechtel: I play for the South Oakland Athletics and my most memorable experience was going down to Nashville and competing with some of the best teams in the country.

PBR: Now that you have your commitment out of the way, what are your goals both individually and for the team for the rest of your junior season?

Prechtel: I want to continue my offseason workouts. Im hoping my high school team can win a league championship.

PBR: What were your stats for lastspring?

Prechtel: During the spring: BA:300 OBP:320. On the mound I was 3-0.

Summer: 8-0 on the mound.

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter that you have faced?

Prechtel: Nick Plummer. He is a tremendous athlete and a extremely hard out.
