Inside the Recruitment: '17 LHP/OF Sam Weatherly commits to Clemson
September 26, 2015
Sam Weatherly, LHP/OF, Howell, Class of 2017
PBR: Why did you choose Clemson?
Weatherly: I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to visit many schools and meet great coaches and see awesome campuses and facilities. In the end, I chose Clemson because it was the best 'fit' for me. I really felt comfortable with the coaches and campus, and obviously the baseball tradition and facilities at Clemson are absolutely incredible.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Weatherly: Michigan, North Carolina, Central Michigan, Ball State, Louisville, Kentucky, Virginia, Coastal Carolina, and Missouri.
PBR: How much did playing down south play a part in your decision?
Weatherly: Obviously the weather played a part in my decision, but was not a deciding factor. The ACC is a great conference and that was also a part in my decision.
PBR: How does it feel to be a part of a Division1 baseball program?
Weatherly: It honestly is a dream for me. I really feel blessed to be in this position and just really excited for the future.
PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?
Weatherly: I played with the Livingston Hurricanes - which was comprised of several of our high school team's senior leaders and rival players in our region - it was a great experience. The highlight of the summer was playing in the PBR Future Games in Indianapolis. Met and played with great guys from Michigan.
PBR: What person has the greatest impact on your baseball career and why?
Weatherly: My dad. He has taught me most of what I know in the game and he played D1 baseball at Central Michigan University. I've always wanted to be like him and play college baseball like he did.
PBR: What were your stats this spring season?
Weatherly: Hit .323 and was 3-1 on the mound.
