Marshall Pride Stands Out To Elmy

CANTON - Freshman season was a big learning experience for Kane Elmy.

Now a junior, Elmy began to see the dream of Division I college baseball materialize right before his eyes two years prior.

“That year I saw so many of my teammates making commitments to college,” Elmy reflected. “I told myself, ‘why can’t that be me?’ I’ve got no older brother, so those seniors were my older brothers and I wanted to be like them.”

Mission accomplished for Elmy, who has committed to play college ball at Marshall.

“The Future Games was huge for me,” the 19th-ranked 2021 player in Michigan pointed out. “Right after that I talked with coach (Joe) Renner, the pitching coach (at Marshall), and he said he liked my projection and my frame. He said he saw at the Future Games that I’ve got broad shoulders with nice loose arm action on my fastball. I went on an official visit after that.”

It was a memorable experience according to the Plymouth High School junior.

“The first thing I told my mom was they have a lot of pride in their tradition,” pointed out Elmy. “Everyone was wearing green and had Marshall on their chest.”

Contact from North Alabama and Ball State also followed the Future Games for Elmy, with Murray State and Toledo also showing an interest in the 6-3 170-pound right-handed pitcher, who received offers from Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan in addition to Marshall.

“Seeing my teammates make the next step my freshman year was when I realized I could do this,” Elmy said. “Then after my sophomore year the Future Games opened the door for me and schools became interested.”

It was Marshall that won out in the end, with the sixth-rated junior RHP in the state excited to make a commitment to the Conference USA school.
