Michigan Insider: Class of 2017 No. 1 Prospect Sam Weatherly - Jupiter National Title

Sam WeatherlyMichigan’s #1 prospect in the 2017 class Sam Weatherly left a lasting impression on the baseball world winning the Jupiter National Championship with his North Carolina based Dirtbag summer team. We took a moment to sit down with Sam about the Jupiter experience.

PBR: How did you join the Dirtbag Team?
Sam: I needed a summer team to play with and I brought it up with another Clemson commit, Kier Meredith. He put in a good word with head coach Andy Partin. also Kier and his family let me stay with them when we weren't on the road which meant a lot to my family and I.

PBR: Discuss the overall experience being at Jupiter? Also being one of the few players from the state of Michigan able to participate in this prestigious event how did that make you feel?
Sam: It was incredible. Having the teammates that I had and the coaches in Andy, Lee, and Phil made it even better, it was a special group of guys. And Being able to represent Michigan and play at a tournament like that was amazing, I love getting out and showing what kids up north can do.

PBR: Already being a top player in the country and committed to Clemson why did you feel it was important to attend Jupiter?
Sam: It capped off a great summer and fall of baseball. Being able to play with those guys one more time and play for coach Partin meant a lot to me. The dirtbags have a great tradition of always doing well in Jupiter and I wanted to be a part of that as well.

PBR: Discuss how it felt to win the World Championship.
Sam: Words can't really describe it. We came in with only 17 guys and everyone was pulling for each other, we all had each others back. It was a team effort the entire tournament and to win it was incredible!

PBR: Now that you've won the Jupiter World Championship, how do you intend to build on that success on the future and in High school?
Sam: I'm going to continue with the same mentality I had. Make sure that everyone is pulling for each other and we all have each others backs. The more team chemistry you have the better!
