Michigan Insider: Updated Class of 2019 Player Rankings (December)

With the fall season over and the winter showcases ramping up, Prep Baseball Report Michigan takes a look at the 2019 rankings. Many new prospects come into the rankings while many prospects have made jumps, some drastically. Below we will take a look at “What’s New At The Top”, “Rising Prospects”, and some of the top uncommitted prospects.

WHATS NEW AT THE TOP

As we bring the year to a close, 2019 prospects continued to burst on the scene. The state’s #1 and #2 ranked players RHP Christopher Mokma (Holland Christian) and Dillon Kark (Orchard Lake St. Mary’s) have both committed to Michigan State University. Robert Cavin (Livonia Stevenson) and Joe Hardenbergh (Catholic Central) both entered the top ten respectfully at #7 and #8.

Cavin, a 6-foot, 220-pound catching prospect is physically developed. Shows good receiving skills with a good throwing arm behind the plate. Has shown pop times ranging 1.91-1.94 while throwing 77 mph down to secondbase. Has big time pop in his bat showing power potential. 96 mph exit velocity. 

Hardenbergh, a 6-foot-1 190 pound OF/RHP from Catholic Central projects as a corner OF at the next level with a good skillset. Although raw at the moment the talent is apparent and he will only continue to improve. Registered an impressive 96 mph exit velocity at the Fall Top Prospects showcase while throwing 85 mph from the OF.

The Risers

Drew Alsobrooks and Scott McGlade saw notable rises in the rankings after careful review and strong summer seasons.

Alsobrooks, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound two-way prospect that has a projectable frame with power at the plate. Has displayed potential as both an OF as well as LHP. Runs a 7.10 60 yard dash while throwing 76 mph from the OF. On the mound flashes a strong three pitch mix with his fastball being thrown in the low-80s.

McGlade, a 5-foot-11, 180-pound prospect had one of the most impressive rounds of BP at the 2016 Preseason All-State followed by another strong performance at this Summer’s Top Prospects Game. McGlade has cleaned up his body, which should improve his mobility. A solid fielder will benefit from the added range.

+ Top Middle Infield Prospects: Max Huntley, Tyler Helgeson

+ Top Outfield Prospects: Joe Hardenbergh, Ben Clark, Nasir Frederick

+ Top Two-Way Prospects: Aaron Dolney, Drew Alsobrooks, Cameron French
