Bay City John Glenn Bobcats

John Glenn is coached by veteran coach Jeff Hartt.  Hartt has produced more than 400+ wins in 20+  years and was inducted into the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame 12 years ago.  His teams produce top talent year in and year out.  Look for Coach Hartt's 3rd ranked Bobcats to have a long run in this year's Division II state tournament.  They will start by playing the Trojans of Saginaw High on Tuesday, May 29th.

John Glenn's pitching staff is fun to watch and one to stay away from if your an opposing hitter.  Top arms for the Bobcats include Zach Olszewski, Luke Scharich and Tone Jacobs who all have been 85+ this year.

Zach Olszewski has been highly recruited as catcher and will be getting looks as a top right handed pitcher for the 2013 Class.  Olszewski has popped 91 mph a few times this spring and sits comfortably at 86-89.  His breaking pitch has late life from his low 3/4 arm slot. His two seam fastball is his best pitch as it runs in hard on righties.  Take a look at Zach's profile with video and Question and Answer from earlier this spring.  Interviewing Zach after his seven inning 10 strikeout win against Livonia Churchill, he said, “I love the pressure.  It got a little heated after the first hitter got on base, but I love the pressure.”  Senior catcher Brandon Vittitow, however, proceded to pick-off Churchills only sophomore at first base.  After that first out Olzsewski was lights out. He jammed the next two hitters with a dribbler back to the pitcher and a short fly ball to centerfield to end the game.  Olszewski last fastball on the day was 86 mph.

Another top player from the Class of 2013 is Luke Scharich. Scharich is a left handed pitcher that comes from over the top and has good command of his arsenal. His fastball has hit 87 and sits 82-84. Scharich's off speed delivers at 72-75 mph. During the Eaton Rapids game, Scharich showed confidence in his pitches when he lost the lead to a few hits in the top of the third.  His team jumped back on top after Olszewski hit a lead off double and outfielder Sam Brooks knocked him in with laser up the middle. A triple was then crushed by Reid Beffrey to retake the lead.  Scharich never looked back as John Glenn led the rest of the game, winning 7-5.

Sophomore right handed pitcher Tone Jacobs has shown promise after popping 89 last week at Dow Diamond against Reese High School.  The 5-foot-11's fastball consistently sits at 84-86. His last outing against Reese he downed eight in 5 1/3 innings.

Other top players from John Glenn include junior outfielder/left handed pitcher Sam Brooks and junior infielder/first baseman Reid Beffrey.

Other top Performers and players from the Invitational include:

Chelsea's Alex Maloney - SS/RHP Class of 2013 is a top Shortstop who is Chelsea’s ace pitcher.  Maloney stands 6-foot-1, 175 lbs and will be a player to watch as the year continues on.

Skyline's Nick Sponseller - 3B/RHP Class of 2012 has committed to Hillsdale College.  Sponseller’s confidence at the plate and on the base-paths will prove his worth at the next level.

Skyline's Jack Clark - SS/RHP Class of 2013 is a long and lean athletic body who projects nicely.  Clark hits in the 3-hole for the Eagles

Eaton Rapids' #12 dropped a bomb against BC John Glenn in game #2

Livonia Churchill's Dan Cameron - C Class of 2013

Livonia Churchill's James Targus - RHP Class of 2012
