Wyatt Mosley LHP / 1B / Dansville, MI / 2025

DANSVILLE - It was a busy Aug. 1 for Wyatt Mosley.

“I think I had 12 calls,” related the incoming junior at Dansville High School, in reference to the first day college coaches could contact those in the 2025 class. “I was up until 1 in the morning waiting for calls, then I got up early on Aug. 1. I had a couple in mind, but I was still open to see who was offering.”

The fourth-rated senior left-handed pitcher in Michigan finally got the call he anticipated.

“West Virginia called me at 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 1,” Mosley reflected. “They said they wanted to make me a Mountaineer.”

The 15-year-old had already visited the Big 12 Conference university.

“I did an official visit after the Future Games,” Mosley explained. “The view, the environment around me, the campus, how the coaches came across - we really want you - all of that stood out. It’s not that they liked me, they loved me. I could tell we had a connection. It clicked when they talked to me.”

Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio U, Illinois State, Tulane, Xavier and St. John’s were among other schools that called Mosley to show their interest.

“We played in a couple of tournaments our coaches wanted us to play in to be in front of a bunch of coaches so on Aug. 1 we’d get calls,” Mosley said. “I also did a lot of PBRs and that helped. It let me update my profile and there were a couple videos of me that were posted on the PBR Michigan page.

“I went to a lot of PBR showcases,” Mosley continued. “I wanted to make myself stand out. I posted a lot on Twitter and I followed a lot of colleges.”

West Virginia took notice.

“They like that I have a very unique delivery when I pitch,” the 6-0 180-pound southpaw noted. “How the front foot is and how every pitch I throw is the same arm slot.”

Improvement was vital in getting interest from schools according to Mosley.

“The main thing was lifting, trying to gain velo,” Mosley said of his quest to get better. “When I knew that pitching was going to be my main thing, I started to do more pitching than hitting and I saw a big difference. I was more locked into pitching and more confident in myself with my pitches. I knew I could throw any pitch in any count.”

Mosley pointed to travel coach Scott Leonard as being an important part in helping him get where he is today.

“He’s been my biggest influence, pushing me the hardest and putting me in the best games possible to be in front of these colleges,” Mosley said.

It has the 26th-ranked 2025 in the state obtaining a dream that has been around since he was young.

“I’ve wanted to play college baseball since I was nine-years-old,” Mosley related. “It became realistic at 12-years-old. I started lifting when I turned 10 and then I had high velo jumps. I just believed in myself that I could make it to college.”

It became a reality when West Virginia reached out on Aug. 1.

“We had a second call at 3:30, a zoom call with (associated head) coach (Steve) Sabins,” Mosley reflected. “He talked about the college and what they had to offer. After that I wanted to talk to my parents and we had another call at 9:30. That’s when I committed.”

It was an amazing experience according to Mosley.

“When I wanted to say I am officially committed to West Virginia University my heart was racing,” Mosley said. “It was just a great feeling. If I could have that feeling again I would.”

Undecided on a college major, the 3.5 student at Dansville is thrilled to be going to the college in Morgantown, six hours from home.

“I’m looking forward to having fun and playing my hardest,” Mosley said. “Most importantly, I want to do my best in the classroom.”

Mosley is confident he will be able to make an impact at the next level.

“No matter where I am, no matter the type of day I’m having, I will bring my all,” Mosley said. “I will try my hardest to reach the best of my ability for West Virginia University.”
