On the Hunt: 5 Big Arms, a Shortstop, and a Lefty Hitting Catcher Uncommitted in 2018-2020 Classes

This week, On the Hunt, takes a look at five pitchers, a catcher, and a short stop in the 2018-2020 classes. Included in the mix are some arms that are ready for national attention immediately, and an introduction to the state of Texas for On the Hunt from a pitcher and a shortstop.

Trey Nordmann, RHP, Bath HS, MI, 2019
Nordman is a 6-foot-3, 175-pound right-hander with good feel for three pitches including a fastball that recently sat 84-86 in a bullpen session. Nordman smoothly repeats a compact motion that gives way to a long arm swing before releasing out of a mid-¾ slot with some effort out front. Nordmann’s confidence on the mound is easy to see, and he utilizes his moxy to his advantage by both cutting and sinking his fastball with feel for both. Taking 10/4 and 11/5 shape depending on how hard he throws it, and how much break he wants, Nordmann showed great command of a 67-71 slurve-type pitch that shows signs of being a future out pitch, and could develop into a filthy slider sooner rather than later. Nordmann also flashed a changeup at 75-77 that he threw with fastball arm speed for strikes. Overall, Nordmann appears poised to have a breakout spring and summer in 2017, and recruiters should be excited about his three above average pitches that he commands, and the possibility of having a swing-and-miss pitch at the front of a weekend rotation.
